Golden Gate?

I am thinking about staying at the Golden Gate for a day r two on my next trip. I have heard you can't control the room temp. Is this true how would it be in late June? I like a cold room.
I've stayed there twice this year. The only adjusting I did to the room temp was turning the AC on, and turning the AC off. I didn't actually try to adjust the temperature.

I'm guessing the thermostat being adjustable is a room by room thing. I like staying at the Golden Gate; the room is small but comfortable, great beds. But not fancy by any means. I just need a place to sleep and shower, and they do it great. The only thing that I did not like there was the shower; it was very, very difficult to adjust the temp! Took a lot of practice to get it right.
I also like the Golden Gate and get free rooms every month which is very easy to do. The rooms are small, but the beds very comfortable. The diner is great, good home-cooked food and the famous shrimp cocktail.

I'm always treated very well, and that is important to me.
Thanks, I have free room offers too. I think I am going to try it out if I can talk the wife into a couple of nights downtown.

I've stayed at the Gate three times in the past 6 months. Do not get a room towards the front of the hotel(facing Fremont); the bands play until around 1:30 AM and you will not be able to sleep...LOUD. They empty the dumpters in the alley(east side of the building) around 6 AM, so I advise not getting a room that faces the alley. A room towards the rear of the hotel, facing Main St should be fine. Try and get room 201(it has a remodeled bathroom which is larger) The rooms are small, beds are very comfortable, flat screen TV, in-room safe, Keurig coffee maker, water and some snacks which you have to pay for if you use them. I've never had a problem with the airconditioning. The bathrooms are VERY small....one person at a time small. Getting the water temperature to a comfortable level in the shower will be a challenge. Housekeeping does a good job in keeping the room clean. The bath towels are big and on the thicker side. The dealers are a fun bunch of people. Dupars serves up some delicious pancakes and French toast, and don't forget to try the shrimp cocktail which the Golden Gate is famous for. I just called the Gate yesterday and booked two nights for the first week in June.

Spring Break 2000 !!!

I second everything said above.. but be advised of the thin walls. My last trip to the GG was complimented by the couple next to me who seem to have set a record for, um.. intimate relations in 3 days. Not sure if they were on a honeymoon or just really happy to see each other. It was funny at first, but annoying by the 3rd session, luckily it never lasted long and turning the TV up drowned it out.

However - the GG is great because you can go from your room to a table w/ a drink in your hand in less than 5 mins. One of the joys of downtown.

This may seem odd but anyway..... I have not stayed at the Golden Gate since the renovation, but when I did stay there a few years ago they had one elevator, built about 50 years ago, about the size of a closet, but it was the smoothest damned elevator I have ever been on! The doors closed and 5 seconds later they opened and you were on your floor, no noise, no thump when you got there-- no nothing.
The same trip, I had to go to Walgreen's and buy the spongy things you put in your ears as the music from the Fremont Street experience was so loud in the room....no exaggeration either! The speakers are literally right outside the windows on the 3rd floor.

Still only one elevator, no stairs (at least that I ever found). The elevator is new and shiny, and still damn smooth.

They do have an old stairwell. Its by the elevator (dont know if there is a sign). A few years ago I was staying on the 3rd floor and instead of waiting on the lift, Id just take the stairs. Old and dimly lit, but carpeted.

I just wanted to add that I stayed at the GG once before the remodel. I really enjoyed staying at the GG with a room facing FSE. I think we were on the second floor. It was fun to open the window and watch people! We actually could lay on the bed and watch FSE! It was fun. I never go to sleep early in Vegas so the noise did not bother me. I did learn that after all the crowd goes they do really clean up FSE with a sweeper and wash it. I enjoyed it! The walls are a little thin, but all I heard was doors closing. I would stay again.
