Golden Gate "The Night Starts Here" free play and happy hour results

I miss the Gate, just got back from Vegas, just not the same. We went to the "Happy Hour", free drinks and free play, I just wish they did this when they had the table games. Spent most of our stay at the D. Please don't change that!!

I did the Night Starts Here promo three times shortly after it began. Got $5 slot play twice and $10 once. Can't use it for video poker. Don't drink alcohol so it's kind of a waste of time for me. The locals hog the penny keno machines near hotel checkin

I read that Derek will have dancers during the 1 hour Happy Hour.  Step in the right direction.  Bring back the live tables like the Silver Sevens will be doing.

You can suggest all you want, but Derek is not bringing back table games at GG.   A good part of the reason of the Night Starts Here promotion is to make up for removing the tables.   You aren't going to have your cake and eat it too!   The reality is that the labor cost of table games isn't going to justify any low limit table games, and having a small pit has a lot of overhead compared to the larger pits at D and Circa.    He's giving away free money now in the form of freeplay to anyone that gets to the booth in that hour or so! Who else is or has ever done that?   There are tons of changes that in town that are a lot more worse off for the player than these changes at GG!

Well said, but you're off base on the operating cost of table games. About 20 years ago, I researched this topic in some detail. Turned out that a $2 minimum BJ table in a moderately busy downtown casino would gross at least $250,000 a year. The table overhead was almost trivial: one minimum-wage dealer (who, ironically, earns about the same now as then), a few dozen decks of cards every week, replace the table felt every two weeks. The "free" drinks served to the players were about five times as costly as all that overhead combined.

Thus, removing table games isn't really a financial decision; it's a change the casino's vibe decision. While there have been slot-only casinos in Vegas--there were three of them on the same block as the GG at one point-;they've never done all that well. Table games are part of the casino atmosphere.

"Moderately busy" is the key phrase there.    Table games aren't as popular as machines and it can be hard to keep them occupied especially when there are downturns in the economy.

i remember when Slots-a-fun had tables right off the sidewalk on LV blvd.   Every time I walked by I saw a bored dealer standing at the craps table with no players.     I used to stay at Tuscany when they had tables....the casino had a decent crowd but no table players.     Etc, etc, etc.

The big bankroll players likely avoid the small time joints that don't offer comps at fancy restaurants or hotels.    The small bankroll players are too volatile with their play and frequently disappear during tough times.

The Tuscany does have table games again, but they aren't that busy, at least they weren't last week when we were there. The entire gaming floor wasn't that busy, but Marilyn's Cafe was packed.

Good to know - its one of my favorite places in that neighborhood.

IM not optimisitc about the table future but I hope Im wrong.

The other thing is that Golden Gate replaced their table games with heads up gaming, not even group gaming like a common roulette table or bubble craps with a single bubble. That is even less fun and you might as well just play a slot machine.
