Golden Nugget

Just put these posts in perspective.
#1 is the walk an issue? I am 50 and the walk from the casino to the tower was only an issue after after a 3 foot tall drink from the Le bayou casino next door. On the other hand if your in the rush tower, its super close to the valet parking!

#2 Another cool thing is you have to walk by the pool to get to either the Carson or Rush tower from the casino, and that doesnt suck for us 50 year olds!

#3 If price is an issue, get a carson tower room and the Landry's card and hope for an up grade. I scored the nicest room I have ever had with the Landrys card,(Rush tower JR suite!) plus you get to skip that damned check in line at the GN which can be awful at times and go to the VIP check in (worth $25 by itself sometimes!)

I will be at the Golden Nugget from May14th to the 21st. Any other questions I can look for you while I am there just let me know!

Weggie
Stayed in Gold and South, but not Rush. We actually have come to like the South Tower better---we walk every day so that is not a problem for us--because it is soooooo quiet. Last Dec we checked in early, and my wife said, "do you think we are the only ones on this floor." Then our son checked in later and came by our room and said, " you think these are the only two rooms occupied on this floor?" I mean it is really quiet----we just have found that you hear little hallway foot traffic and no Fremont Street noise. But if mobility is a problem, then Gold would be for you.

Gold Tower by far the best choice

I was thinking of getting a Rush Tower room for a couple of days on my next trip, which is a really long time away. It will be my first stay downtown. why do you think Gold Tower is better?

Move upstreet to the El Cortez's Cabana Suites! They're comfy and the BJ games are better there.

Is there a law that says I have to play at the GN if I stay at the GN that I am unaware of? I have seen pictures of the cabana suites. they look very small and very green. And they don't have the seperate tub and shower that the Rush Tower rooms claim they have.

This would be my first time dipping my toe in the downtown hotel water. I think for someone who usually stays at Caesars or similar, the ElCo might be just too much of a culture shock

The Rush tower Jr. Corner Suite we stayed in did not have a separate tub and shower.

It was very nice though.

I think the East End Jr. Suites do though.

Hello all!!! Just returned home after 4 nights at the Nugget. I paid the extra for VIP check-in on a Saturday afternoon, and after a 5 hour drive, it was nice to just walk into the VIP check-in room and not have to wait. VIP check-in also reserves the room you want.......such as king, non smoking. Apparantly what you want in a room is not always guaranteed upon reservation......pay the extra $25 for that guarantee) And they advertise no resort fees. Sounds like those "hidden fees"are there for the taking.

I signed up for a Landry's Card and showed it at check-in. I also had reserved room from an email special I had recieved from GN the week before. The VIP checkling informed us that to recieve the free upgrade from Landry"s, one has to have made a reservation THROUGH the Landry's card.. She so nicely pointed out the number on the card. (can anyone see mini-micro printing?) So in other words, she told us, that we could either have the regular price Landry's upgrade (of which there were none anyway on the evening) or stay at the "E Blast" rates we recived in the email. Not both. I was a little disappointed but heck...we are in Vegas...finally. Despite getting those looks from Hubby, as he thought paying for VIP check-in was unecessary. Believe me, it sure was on that day.

Another perk from the VIP checkin was that we recieved the special coupon book and a VIP line pass to the cafe and the buffett. She also told me that if we had booked through Landry's for the upgrade, we would not be able to recieve said coupon book. On the paperwork I recieved with my card did not specifically state that one must reserve through Landry's. (probably in the small print on the Landry select club website) Who knows? Well, I felt that I had been misinformed, but at that point we were tired, hot, wrinkled and hungry. You know how you feel when you finally get here. It did not make that much difference anyway.

We recieved a room in the Carson Tower. 4th floor. View of a wall. Which makes no difference to us as we are not ones to linger and lounge in a room. The bed was a Serta sleeper and sooooo very comfortable. The room is always well appointed and it was quiet. The whole hallway and floor was quiet. Very nice. The only noise one heard from the hallway was muffled talking on occasion. The walk was really not so bad. They have opened that whole area between the pool area and the Carson Towers. It used to be this unending hallway with time share people that attatcked you like sharks. It is now a big open, well lighted space and the time share folks are there but we were not assaulted at all. It could have been the look on Hubby's face.....it warded off all who approached.

Of course with your new Landry's select card, you have $25 on it for dinner. We enjoyed a great happy hour at the new Chart House there at the Rush Tower. It was delish and not horribly filling as we needed energy for venturing and zip lining!!! All in all, the whole GN experience was great. We had a wonderful time quaffing many many brews at the pool and going down the slide numerous times.!!!!

well, crap. I may not do the downtown thing after all then

You know, to tell the truth, I do like staying closer to the Strip. For this trip, the price was right and the pool is great. And as we all know, the ACG and LVA coupons ofset so much, too. This is the one thing that really really bugged me. I had the VIP line pass.....after all these years of standing in line...for shows, for check-in, and restaurants, bars, and buffetts.......ALWAYS A LINE......and this time, clutching my VIP pass, I would not have to. I was quite jazzed....... Well, guess what? No line. Both times....no line. Just one lady with an oxygen tank who elbowed and pushed by me yelling "Excuse Me Excuse Me, Excuse Me!!!! (jab in the ribs) Excuse me. I never did figure that one out. Maybe she was afraid that her oxygen would run out before she finished eating. I finally got a line pass, and no line. Poo. I was looking forward to that little smug feeling I was going to get inside from just going up front. You know how some trips are....somethings do not go right. I also broke 6 fingernails and got my toe squashed by the heavy stool in front of a VP machine. OUCH. Well, that's the way it goes.

Well, I don't hang out with the caviar crowd and the El Cortez is just fine with me.

You should see what kind of room qualifies for the $64 rate they offered you....likely it wont be a Rush Tower suite or a GOLD VIP Room.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the Rush Tower. The rooms are beautiful but I dont like how its removed from Fremont St. Part of the appeal of downtown to me is the ability to get off the elevator and take a few steps and be on Fremont St.
