Golden Nugget/Landry's Select Club

Has anyone used a Landry's Select Club card at the Golden Nugget?
The Golden Nugget web site mentions free room upgrades if you are a member of Landry's Select Club.
Also VIP check in.
I wonder what (if any) advantage or upgrade you really get with it.
I just signed up for a Landry's Select Club card to try it out. Cost $25 but you get $25 in food credit for signing up. I'll see how the room upgrade and VIP checkin goes in May.

Very interesting. $25 one-time fee to join. You get $25 in food credit for signing up (can be used at some of the GN restaurants, but not all, and/or can be used at other Landry's-owned locations throught the US like the Rainforest Cafe), and $25 food credit during your birthday month (unclear if that's only in your first year of membership, or each year). ...plus a room upgrade (based on availibility) and VIP check in at the GN.

I'm very curious to hear about your experience, Alan. If they're still offering the GN room upgrade perk when I book my next trip, I'll probably go for it -- with the $50 back in food for the $25 membership fee, I can't really see how one has much to lose.

Edit: I did some more searching and found this message thread with some people who have posted about it. One was able to redeem the $50 ($25 signup and $25 for his birthday month) in the same visit at the Rainforest Cafe at MGM Grand. One was upgraded from the Carson Tower to the new Rush Tower, and one reported having booked the Rush Tower, and not being given an upgrade from there, but they got 10% off their room (which more than paid for the $25 membership fee). As long as they keep honoring the card, this looks like a winner.
I've joined and am waiting for my card. I already have the GN booked in early May. I'll let you know if it works for me.
Thanks for the great info!!!

Just signed up for my card on the website. We are going in July and haven't booked our room yet. I'm hoping that the upgrade will get us from Carson Tower to whatever they are calling the North Tower now. Even if that doesn't happen, I figure you have nothing to lose since you get your $25 back in food credit. Do you have to use the phone number they give you to make reservations or can you make them online with the card?
Hey knagl - Thanks for the great post. I've already booked GN (Carson Tower) for July through US Airways Vacations. I wonder if I get the card now, if I can still get an upgrade when I check in. I also wonder if they will still offer their discount book in July. It has some good deals on drinks and 2 fers. Please keep us updated. This one sounds like a keeper.
I too am already booked and I was just going to call them up and have them add my Landry's Select benefit of VIP check-in and Free Upgrade to my reservation.

Of course now, when I read the fine print on the SUPER SPRING SPECIAL I had booked I see that "Offer may not be used in conjunction with any other offer or membership club at the Golden Nugget". I'm sure that doesn't apply to me....as I'll argue the AlanLeroy exemption. In any event, the $25 reward is posted to my account, so it's a no lose.
I also wonder if they will give an upgrade for reservations made using third parties or only reservations booked directly through GN.

Last year I booked through travelocity then got an email offering upgrades at special prices. I tried to upgrade to the Gold Club room for $50 per night but was told I couldn't because my original booking was through a third party.

.

In my case, the SUPER SPRING SPECIAL is a deal directly through the GN...available on their web site...which appears to exclude using any other offers including 'membership clubs'.

It still couldn't hurt to show the card when you check in -- perhaps you'll still get something for it?
