Golden Nugget...possible first time stayer

To follow up with my thoughts. The GN is our hotel of choice. As ProfBac says, if you splurge do go to Vic and Anthony's. If you are going to do that, then also, as cfd37buckeye states, get a Landry's Select card. Book through their number. You might get a free upgrade to the Rush or Gold Towers.
We stayed in the Rush Tower at the GN and really liked it. It was clean and the whole tower is Non smoking. For a person with asthma it was refreshing. : D
Saw the worlds largest golden nugget there several years ago but I don't think it is there anymore. Have stayed in the Carson Tower and it was nice enough. Going again this summer and thinking about upgrading to either the Gold Tower or Rush Tower, haven't decided which since they just came out with a new summer offer.

If anyone has any thoughts on the Gold Twr vs Rush Tower, please chime in.
We have been a regulars of the GN since 1997. From 1997 till 1999 we stayed 4 times a year and from 2000 until present 6 times per year (retirement). GN is just the size of casino for us. We like the North Tower by far. It is close to the elevators and after a long night it works the best. Resturants are very good Grotto, Vic and Anthony's and Carson Street fits the bill. The buffet (not so good). Easy access to other casino with a few steps of each other. Have never tried the chart house but from what I here it is very good. Just recently the Plaza has done quite a bit of remodeling and now the old Fitz is (new D) is in the process along with the Golden Gate of doing the same. Binion's Steak house is very nice the food is great. Have stayed in South Tower, Rush Tower and Gold Tower and as I said we perfer the Gold Tower. Walk out on Fremont Street and see the sights and sometimes they are things you will remember and laugh even long after your trip.

We love the GN. Gambling is so so, but they are friendly. We have been staying there for many years and never had a problem. Yes there are much better buffets but we still eat there. Hope you have a great trip no matter where you stay.

I ended my boycot of GN last week and stayed in the Rush Tower. it was my first time in the place in 5 years. all I can say is...WOW! rooms were fantastic ...very big...short walk from elevator...lots of ammenities. the pool is gorgeous and fun. I even managed to win a little in the casino...450 dollars on a penny slot. The Italian restaurant, Grotto, was perfectly decent with a nice view of the pool. food was Olive Garden quality.

All in all it was better than I anticipated. I will be back.
Happy end of boycott, pj!

OP --- I get meal comps at both GN and Binions, and I find the grill at GN (right there on the casino floor) is far superior to the grill at Binions. I also enjoy Magnolia's at 4Q (one other poster mentioned the prime rib as delightful).
