Help for a Downtown Newbie

I'm not spoon feeding valuable plays that take significant time to find on an open forum just to have it immediately pounded into oblivion.  You looking to swap info for plays that took you hours to locate?

Like I said, there's a play for those who are willing to put in the time to find it.

I havent been downtown in over a year so this may be dated....but Main Street Station historically had the best craps table downtown bar none.    20X odds and optimum field bet.      Comps suck there but you cant beat that table.

I've heard, but can't verify, that they've reduced it to standard 2X odds. Sounds like a Boyd move.

I remember the Horseshoe, with $1 minimums and 5X odds. You could play forever with an effective house edge of about 0.3%. Sigh.

Played at Horseshoe when craps was $1 minimum with 100X odds.  Those were the days.

Just got back and I have a few thoughts:

I found the Four Queens to be adequate, and that's about it. Obviously an older property badly in need of a refresh considering what is going on all around them. I walked across the street to Fremont and was amazed at the difference. Same with Golden Nugget and even the Plaza. Four Queens just felt worn out for lack of a better term. The vibe wasn't one I was feeling and it simply didn't feel as though people were having any fun. However, I will say their hotel, cage, and restaurant staff was excellent in every single interaction. Almost as if they know their product is below expectations so their service needs to make up for it.

What else was unexpected was the way they ran the craps and blackjack games. Every time a player would get on a winning streak, new rules would seem to appear out of the blue. They were harassing shooters on the craps tables who didn't hit the back wall (even when that was due to the dice hitting a stack of chips) or hold the dice just right, and even told one player he wasn't allowed to shoot anymore because one of the dice went off the table three times during his roll. Mind you, he probably rolled 30+ times and one of these was because the two dice hit each other rolling down the table and one popped nearly straight up in the air. He wasn't doing anything strange or out of the ordinary. The table just had a lot of bounce. That was disappointing. You can't run off players with so much competition so close.

Overall, I would say I had a good trip. I don't know that I'll stay at Four Queens again...but I also can't say that it was a bad experience. I just feel you can get much more value for not much more money next door or across the street. By the way...I played less at Fremont than at 4Q and got far more in comps there.

I agree with you on several of your points. The 4 Queens will never be mistaken for the Golden Nugget or Circa - but when comparing room/resort fee prices between the 4 Queens and the Golden Nugget and Circa, there is the value to value conscious visitors. If you think about it, the 4 Queens offers adequate rooms with all the necessary amenities ( coffee maker, refrigerator in some rooms, shampoo, lotion, soap) at no additional cost. Once I close my eyes and go to sleep, all rooms are the same to me. Sure other casinos look nicer, but the attractions to me with the 4 Queens is cheap rooms (no rip off resort fee), inexpensive dining choices, great video poker, location, and the evening fun atmosphere. And they send out very good comp room offers. How you wish to spend your money is your business, all I know is that I find the 4 Queens to ba great value in a city that gouges.

The value is unquestioned considering the location and lack of resort fees. I suppose I'll see what additional offers I receive from them and perhaps I'll be back. Again, not a bad trip by any means and I wouldn't for a second discourage anyone from staying there. I've actually suggested them to a friend or two heading to Vegas next month.

I'm not much of a video poker player and perhaps that would sway me a bit if I were. I'm more of a craps player and find the game to be similar (if not identical) from one place to another downtown or off strip. This being the case I'll likely go where the comps are best and I feel most comfortable playing. Boyd and Station have already sent me full comp offers for their properties. Curious to see if 4Q does the same.

I likely should have included that I found staying downtown to be an absolute blast! Never set foot on the strip and probably had the most fun I've had yet in Vegas. So much more relaxed and comfortable. Regular people just enjoying themselves instead of the crowd who is trying to show how much money they can blow on stupid things. I thought I would miss going to the strip...and I didn't in the least. Next trip will again be downtown!

If you like playing craps, try this informative website -- https://vegasadvantage.com/las-vegas-table-game-survey/craps/

We only stay downtown, hate the strip & won't go there. I would suggest to purchase a Member Rewards coupon book (no, I do not work for the LVA). There are a ton of coupons for the downtown hotels/restaurants. Check the coupon 'preview' on LVA to see if it would benefit you. Good luck.

I bought the book and used it quite a bit. Hit nearly every single match play coupon and enjoyed that it took me to places like El Cortez that I may not have ventured to otherwise.
