Just got back and I have a few thoughts:
I found the Four Queens to be adequate, and that's about it. Obviously an older property badly in need of a refresh considering what is going on all around them. I walked across the street to Fremont and was amazed at the difference. Same with Golden Nugget and even the Plaza. Four Queens just felt worn out for lack of a better term. The vibe wasn't one I was feeling and it simply didn't feel as though people were having any fun. However, I will say their hotel, cage, and restaurant staff was excellent in every single interaction. Almost as if they know their product is below expectations so their service needs to make up for it.
What else was unexpected was the way they ran the craps and blackjack games. Every time a player would get on a winning streak, new rules would seem to appear out of the blue. They were harassing shooters on the craps tables who didn't hit the back wall (even when that was due to the dice hitting a stack of chips) or hold the dice just right, and even told one player he wasn't allowed to shoot anymore because one of the dice went off the table three times during his roll. Mind you, he probably rolled 30+ times and one of these was because the two dice hit each other rolling down the table and one popped nearly straight up in the air. He wasn't doing anything strange or out of the ordinary. The table just had a lot of bounce. That was disappointing. You can't run off players with so much competition so close.
Overall, I would say I had a good trip. I don't know that I'll stay at Four Queens again...but I also can't say that it was a bad experience. I just feel you can get much more value for not much more money next door or across the street. By the way...I played less at Fremont than at 4Q and got far more in comps there.
