If you stray away from the FSE, where to?

So I'm planning out my upcoming solo trip and each year, I spend a few hours away from downtown & check out other casinos. Years past, I have taken the shuttle to Sams Town, cabbed it to the Palms, made the Ellis Island/Terribles walk & even took a trip to Wild Wild West (guess I'm a sucker for punishment).

I try and avoid the strip & having a coupon helps, but is not a must.

So, where do you go or where would you recommend?

Thanks!!
Marko..
Hey Marko,

When I want to do something away from Downtown, I take a break (for a diversion) to go do an LVA & ACG coupon run as well as possibly to go play some Win Card promotions (even if they end up being on the Strip -- such as Circus-Circus).

What about the Cannery? While I have never been there, it soundsit might satisfy your hunger for unique places.
Yeah, I hit the Cannery by Sams Town (can't remember which one it was). Longhorn was also walking distance.
I'm debating between Orleans & South Point.

Marko.

The Orleans is ok. Not the best gaming in town, but not the worst either. Drinks are reasonable...and the cocktail waitresses are nice! Good buffet and decent live entertainment as well.

If you are in the area, check out the Gold Coast (Flamingo and Vally View). Better VP than the Orleans, buffet is similar (and cheaper), waitresses aren't quite as nice.

BTW, what are you looking for? Good gaming, drinks, food? Or just something new and different? I should have asked that first!

Im looking for a laid back, cheap, smaller casino with some character. I like the big strip mega resorts, but the high limits and miles of walking just to get around is annoying. I like the smaller old school dives, guess thats why I like dowtown so much. I was too young to see the Stardust or Westward Ho, but I think I would have liked it there.

Well, Marko, I think that based on the criteria that you are looking for, that sounds to me to be more like Casinos like Slots-A-Fun or Casino Royale on the Strip or maybe Jokers Wild or Klondike Sunset Casinos in Henderson or Skyline or Hacienda Casinos. And maybe the American Casino Guide has some ideas as well.

There's also the stuff in North Las Vegas like Jerry's Nugget and Opera House Casino as well as Poker Palace.

It sounds like you want the Longhorn!

* Laid back? Like a dead fly
* Cheap - $2 minimums for blackjack
* Smaller - About as small as you can get and still have table games (they also have some slots & video poker)
* Character - Oh my yes
* Old school - Sure enough. You can practically feel the sawdust under your feet.
* Dive - Like a finely tuned submarine
Hahaha... Ok, maybe I need something a little more classy..

Ellis Island is about as 1 star as I get. (However, I could always appreciate a DAYLIGHT walk to the Western for a $3 beer & a shot)

I'm happy with Plaza, GG & El Co. But sometimes I like to wonder to see all that Vegas has to offer in the low roller world.

Marko..
Main Street Station is close by and fits your wants list
