I'm probably just feeling my age (52)....

Fremont Street at night just isn't my thing anymore. I'm fine with being in the casinos, but actually being out on Fremont Street at night is just too loud, crowded, and freaky. During the day I'm fine, you can't beat the close proximity of the casinos but at night I'd rather be at a locals joint or deal with the crowds of the strip that don't have the freak/bum factor, hopefully that didn't come off as too non-pc.
It may sound funny but although we haven't stayed downtown in awhile I wouldn't rule it out, but would prefer to spend little time on Fremont at night.

I don't think it's your age, Jack - I'm pushing 60, my wife is your age and we still enjoy a walk down Fremont every night we're in Vegas. The freak/bum factor is just another part of the people-watching entertainment for us. We've been staying downtown for many years and much prefer the folks down there over the crowds on the strip. Like you, we do have a couple local joint favorites also. Friends ask me about the "best" places to stay and visit in Vegas - I tell them to sample everything and go with what feels comfortable. Happy trails!
it is WAY too loud. I don't mind the 3 live band stages. but the street performers with speakers/amplifiers/radios/megaphones/microphones... etc, it hurts my effing ears!
I'm in my mid 60's and agree it's way to loud and crowded.Although I admit to liking one quick trip up and down Fremont st. in the evening.I just don't spend a lot of time outside anymore.

LIke the saying goes "If it's too loud, you're too old!" I'm 50 and I LOVE downtown!
In line with my "you kids get off of my lawn", I personally am insulted when I have to walk around and through the crowd on Fremont street to find that the dirty, nearly naked cretins are allowed to be present in that area. If downtown can get rid of cans and glass containers they surely should be able to get rid of these unwanted deviants. What happened to dignity and common sense? I find these "persons" disgusting and in my opinion they should not be allowed to frequent the Fremont street area.

Nobody is forcing you to walk around Fremont, doc - just stay home and complain about the world going to hell. And everything was perfect back in the 1950's right?

You know after 40 years of Vegas trips Fremont Street still has it appeal. Going strong and still enjoy people watching a night or two (for 15 minutes or so.) it breaks up the gambling. Guess when that becomes too much this old dog will just stay on the porch.....Some street performers need to return home with me I would give them about 3 minutes and they would be out looking for a real job. Some are getting discussing and I'm surprised the Fremont Officials still let them make a total ass of themselves. I will leave it up to you are who they just might be. There is plenty of entertainment and some are actually quite good at what they do others would not miss them.
Every thing was not perfect in the 1950's but I sure am glad I grew up then.
I am not yet 50, and it IS too loud. too many competing noises makes for a headache, regardless of age. something needs to go, and I vote for the (mostly) disgusting panhandlers. and I don't mind an little flesh or adult themed kind of stuff, it is vegas after all. but most of the freaks have crossed over into gross territory.
