I'm probably just feeling my age (52)....

The 50's was the greatest time to be growing up....in todays time you can look back and see just how much fun it really was. Todays kids have no idea of what they missed. Times were hard back then but you valued everything you had. Not perfect by a long shot but we never had to worry about drugs--guns---or bombings in schools...We actually had songs that had words and even yet today I can remember the some of the words to songs.
I don't dislike Fremont St....I'm just sorta indifferent to it. I have a bigger problem with the noise in some of the casinos at night (like The D). I've had too many issues where a dealer paid me incorrectly and couldn't hear me when I tried to straighten it out. No thanks. But as for outside - go ahead and bring the noise. I'd rather it be too lively than too dead.
for sure the noise level at the d and the golden gate is also ridiculous. I like the overall décor / theme at the D, and the GG including the go-go dancers, but the music does not have to be that loud. I feel bad for the employees, they WILL have hearing damage. they could turn it down a lot and it would still be loud but tolerable. and I would spend more time there. I have played pai-gow at the D and won money, and the dealers do make mistakes. I might try it again with earplugs at the risk of looking like a nerd.
The tale of Two Vegas' Strip and Downtown. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Love them both. My sister in law invited me to attend the big spa convention a few years ago and I suggested staying downtown so that we could just jump on the bus to get to the convention center. We had a blast watching the half nakeds.........and watching the folks who were watching the half nakeds. Sure it's loud. But then you know that before you go. We usually stay at the 4 Queens and bring earplugs just in case all that loud "annoying" music leaks though the windows and disturbs our important sleep. LOL Earplugs are perfectly fine....I wore them to the last rock concert I attended and the latest Avenger movie. Anyway the countdown is on and will be there two weeks from today. Bring on the noise......goodness knows it's too quiet here at home!!

Pistroh looks like he is half my age, and I am in complete agreement with him.

I have always liked the Golden Nugget but did not care for Freemont Street.
I just returned from a two week trip splitting my time between Palazzo and GN.
I was there to play poker tournaments at Ven, Wynn, and GN.
GN was comped for some casino play. The same play at Palazzo would get nothing.

I came in third out of 360 people at a GN event. A personal best and a nice five figure score.
At 3am I step out onto Freemont Street. Did you say half naked??

I see a man who could have been 50, bald with grey hair on the sides and a bushy moustache.
He is wearing flip slops, a thong revealing pubic hair with a bunny cotton tail sticking out of his ass.
He is easily 60 pounds overweight and has shaved off his remaining body hair.
He is wearing a skimpy bra and a tiara with more cotton balls on his head.
He is promoting something for sale.

How far down in life do you have to fall to be this man?
At that moment I realized that I had become indifferent to the freak show.
I am there for the game, reasonably priced accomodations and food options.
Next trip I will be heading back downtown.
I'll make the trip to Fremont. I know there's gonna be loud with some skank, some dirt, some odor, some drunkenness and a lot of "the freak/bum factor", but that's okay. Not exactly my cuppa tea, but they might not like being laughed at. It's just part of downtown.
I'm in my 40's. I think the noise level on Fremont is fine but the public indecency needs to be controlled. I don't mind the music downstairs at the D but the volume upstairs is way too loud. Could be that the machines I like to play are right under the speaker but do we really need the BeeGees at live concert volume?

I would rather listen to either of the above than be forced to listen to the "entertainment" in the Plaza.

Not to mention we actually played outside and didn't sit in front of the tv playing video games.
