las vegas club rooms?

thinking of staying downtown on our next trip. can the forum help us out? bad? good?
thanks for the info.
perspective counts. I used the LVC as a home for several years and endured a little inconvenience with wall mounted industrial soap dispensers, instead of amenities, but I think they are now using real (small) bars of bath soap. Now, for more perspective, one of the last times there, I conned my way into the north tower penthouse, and I enjoyed that almost as much as harrahs executive suite, or the LVH lanai. But, as things tend to come full circle, I'm now playing the stuffing outta the full pay JOB by the bingo room, and wont hesitate to stay there or plaza later on when it reopens. I have every reason to believe if you're giving the vegas club some action you'll be invited to stay later at the new plaza, who swooped up some reportedly nice furnishings when a luxe joint went into the tank 2 years ago. finally, the shower may not drain fast enough for you. i said it! And Good Luck!
Unless things have changed, I remember North Tower rooms being better (in better shape) than South Tower rooms.

Back when it was owned by Jackie Gaughan the LVC was a great bargain. Since he sold the property a few years back it has changed hands several times steadily going down the whole time.

The comment about the North Tower rooms being better is correct but better is a relative term, not sure how good they are compared to other properties now, I have not stayed at the LVC for about 2 years so I have to base my opinion on the the upkeep of the property as a whole (or should I say "as a hole").

The rooms are Main Street Station and California are nicer, I was very surprised at how nice the Tower rooms are at El Cortez.

I stayed in their penthouse suite a couple years ago and it made for a great bargain downtown. It was basically just two hotel rooms with one of the rooms deisgned to be a living room with a wet bar. I've never stayed in the regular rooms but they are reported to be a little shabby. I'm guessing the newly renovated rooms at Gold SPike might be a step above the regular rooms at Vegas Club for about the same price.
I think it's a matter of expectation and perspective. Some on these boards are fortunate to be comped at Caesars, Bellagio etc. and might call some rooms in town dumps since they are used to much finer accomodations. That's fine and more power to them. Most of us don't fit into that catagory though. When judging rooms, I always remember the tale of two buddies from a while back.

A good friend came to town to help his brother at a trade show. He provided rooms for all at the Sahara. My friends room was a mini suite as it had a sitting area with sofa etc. When I asked how the room was, he then told it was nothing short of a dump and he considered paying for a room on his own elsewhere. I always knew him to be a little picky.

A week or two later, I'm on the phone with my locals buddy that had dinner with the other one night. He and Sue had gone back to Jon's room for a drink and of course saw it. Without mentioning Jon's assessment, I asked Bob what he thought of it. He said all the furniture was older, but in good shape and good quality. When he found out what Jon's brother was paying for the room, he thought it was one hell of a deal. Two perspectives.

In over sixty trips to LV, I've stayed at many different hotels. I've stayed in a few that were getting to the point of needing some change, but necer in one I would call a dump. Not always up to date, but always clean. I think it's all relative. If I'm staying in a room for $35 a night and it's clean, decently stocked, as Charlie would say, "Winning!"

Having said that about rooms, I will say that some of those same joints had casinos that were nothing but dumps! The economy being what it is, there are a lot of places on the strip that I can stay for less that Motel 6. Not many towns you can say that about.

Good Luck!

I agree that frequently people make irrational comparisons and complain how the rooms at Stratosphere just dont measure up to the ones at the Wynn. What a shocker ! Thats why they have the "star" system. You are suppossed to compare 4-star resorts with other 4-star resorts.

Keeping this in mind I tend to think Vegas Club rooms may not be as nice as other 2-star properties in the neighborhood. They were suppossed to renovate along with the Plaza but I believe the plan now is for the Plaza to go first and then Vegas Club. In the meantime their are othe 2-star joints downtown that have renovated recently. I would suggest looking at those and comparing prices to Vegas Club.
I'm taking a flyer and staying there for two nights in June. For $20 per night, with $20 in free slot play, that boils down to $10 per night.

I'm going to give them and the Plaza some play and see if I get any offers from the Plaza when it reopens. And who knows, maybe they will renovate the Las Vegas Club as well. I never minded staying there, even in the South tower with its odd furniture.

And if we're really lucky, maybe they'll even bring back the Upper Deck. I always thought that was a really good coffee shop, especially for the money.
