Looking for info on El Cortez rooms

Hi all -- I have a trip scheduled for Oct. 9-16 and am thinking I would like to stay at least part of the time at the El Cortez. How are the rooms there, and are the Cabana Suites that much better? I had never been there before prior to last year, and even though it is an older property, I felt very much at home there, and was treated quite well by their VP and slot inventory .

Whatever info or insight you can provide is appreciated. Thanks for your time!

I have stayed only at El Cortez for past 10 years at least. I usually ask for tower rooms, but have been treated to suites a few times. At Cabana Suites I stayed in a couple of times. They are nice and the showers are the best they have. Only thing I don't care for is the walk across the street, I guess I'm lazy. I like coming out of elevator into casino from tower rooms. I do get the room comp when I stay there. Talk to Nords at the club for any info.
Thanks, David, for your response. I admit I was thinking along the same line as far as the Cabana Suites are concerned -- I think I would rather simply take the elevator up to my room than walk across the street. My needs are simple and the Tower Rooms sounded just fine to me.

I stayed there in January. I was in one of the vintage rooms. You have to walk up a flight of stairs to get to them. Kind of a pain if you have lots of luggage. Besides that the room was nice.

Thanks, Dig, for your response. I think I'd prefer the Tower Rooms over the Vintage Rooms just for that reason (hauling luggage up and down stairs - ick).

I've stayed in almost all of the room types at El Co. I loved the designer suites but they are way overpriced for what you get. The Tower rooms and Cabana Suites are the only rooms you are guaranteed to get a flatscreen tv and room safe. The lime green walls in the Cabana Suites are a little too much for my tastes but otherwise they were nice....I'd pick the Tower..

They also have some "Pavillion Rooms" which are located on top of the top floor of the parking garage. Each door in these rooms opens to the outside and a beautiful view of the city. But they are dated and don't have room safes.

Regardless of what room you get you can expect a little funbook that comes with free Keno vouchers, drinks, and slot play
The tower rooms are large. I prefer the cabana suites now. Some rooms are really small but the rest of the amenities make up for it. There is a nice gym with a bowl of free fruit.also a candy jar at the exit with free candy such as mike and ike, m&ms and such. Free WiFi in the rooms. Also a free refrigerator, which is very rare in Vegas rooms. TVs have HD signal, which some hotels do not. Nobody gets in the building without an active room key. Security guard outdoors. Feel safer there. At too many hotels anybody can get in an elevator with you, follow you etc. Not here. Definitely worth the short walk across the street.
Thanks PJ and parrothead, for your input. Now I'm just waiting to receive my offers so I can go ahead and book my room!

I just got back from 3 nights in a Cabana room and I completely agree with Parrot. There's always a security guard posted out front, there's always someone at the front desk, and it's brightly lit. The only thing I didn't like about our room (#6303) was that the a/c is right next to the bed. There's a fridge, and there's some decent snacks available for a fair price in the room. The shower was very good as well.
About a year ago, I paid a visit to a friend who was staying at El Cortez in one of the Vintage rooms up the stairs from the casino floor and the room was extremely smokey smelling. I really disliked it myself!
