Looking for Info on Golden Gate Rooms

My wife & I will be going to Las Vegas, 9/25 - 10/01 this year. We have stayed many times at the Hilton/LVH and always liked it there but, between their new resort fees and recent bad "Tripadvisor" reviews, I'm thinking of trying another place. I received a mailed offer of 3 free nights at the Golden Gate, good for any time in Sept., even though we've never stayed there before and haven't really played there all that much. I know that it's an older hotel with small rooms, but free is free. All I really care about is if it's clean and well-maintained. Also, I'm concerned about the noise from Fremont Street. Will they honor a request for a room that's quiet or will I get whatever is available since it's free? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
i have stayed at the Golden Gate in the Older Rooms more times than I can count and I am a local. I happen to enjoy myself when I stay their and find the small room to be charming and cozy. It is easy for me to see how someone could find the room lacking. The bathroom is tiny and you will get noise any where you are situated. If you were going alone to celebrate a buddys engagement or what ever I would say go for it. Unless your wife is a real trooper and can be happy anywhere and is one of those rare gals that is happy to be with you anywhere with out complaining it might be best to make another choice. The Golden Nugget has nice rooms and a good bathroom. Perhaps you might want to stay their and take the Golden Gate room and use it for a quickie with your wife(respectfully stated) and have a more luxurious room for your trip. I get free rooms all of the time from the Golden Gate. I put up a guest their a couple months ago on the Main Street side and they called me at 2 AM saying the noise was driving them out of their mind. The Golden Gate is one of my favorite places in this town and Dupars is my breakfast spot and I dont like to say anything negative about them. I hope I have been helpful. Feel free to send me a PM if you like.Good Luck
I stayed there last Friday and Saturday night.
The first room I got was on the 3rd floor, windows facing the Plaza,
Real hot that day and the room wouldn't cool under 80, as I was checking
in, a couple said their room was hot, after several hours my room wasn't
cooling down, old cooling system, maintenance was called but they couldn't
cool it anymore, just redirect airflow, I called desk asked them, since they own
The D as well, can they move me over to get some relief, they said they didn't
know the occupancy there so they gave me room 202, a newly remodeled mini
suite with a huge bathroom compared to the old room I got first. So that being
said, I would ask for a newly remodeled room, only problem I had with that room
was the fact that it had a new thermostat installed that was motion activated, and
whenever I left the room, it automatically shut down the air. You shouldn't have
any of these problems this fall, and I was able to check in at noon.
If you are used to the rooms at the Hilton you are going to be very shocked by the tiny size of rooms in Golden Gate. You know those tiny little cabins you get on a cruise?...its like that. The bathroom is the same size as on in a mobil home. Standard Rooms at the Golden Gate are fun for a night or two tops. You'll get sick of the cramped space in a hurry. For the same price you can bigger and nicer rooms in the same area....look at the Plaza, Main Street Station, and Four Queens.

Golden gate also has suites that typically run for about $150-$175/night. Havent stayed in one of those. I've heard they are nice.

One last thing...Golden Gate is probably the worst hotel on Fremont St when it comes to noise. Even if your room does not directly face Fremont St you will still hear the noise. Plan on being wake at least until Midnight.

Thanks to all for your input. It sounds like there are very good reasons for these rooms being free! Maybe I'll have to re-think staying at LVH again.
I had 3 free nights in February and took many close up pictures of the room and bathroom, but I am not sure how to upload them on this site from my phone. I can message them to your cell if you want to PM your cell number. The room was tiny, just enough room to walk around the queen bed. The bathroom was dated but all was clean and had the newer style bedding no bedspread. It was noisy, but we never slept there we stayed at the Plaza and just visited the room when we were gambling at the Golden Gate for the bathroom and left housekeeping their tips.
Thanks again for the information. I think that we are going to stay at another place, but double-book and take them up on their offer since, in addition to the 3 free nights, it includes $10 in free play & $15 dining comp. We usually spend at least one full day downtown and it will give us a place to rest for a few hours or even stay overnight if we stay late and don't feel like driving.
I've stayed at the Gate several times and found the rooms more than adequate for my simple tastes. Unless your wife is very low maintenance, she probably will be less than impressed with the Golden Gate's rooms. They are small, but very clean. In-room safe, flat screen TV, comfortable beds, coffee maker($2.00 charge for the coffee) and a comfortable easy chair to sit in. The bathrooms are very small...unless one of you stands in the shower or tub, there won't be room for the both of you. The shower water temperature is a little tricky to regulate..takes a little practice. Do not get a room facing FSE, very noisey. Also, try not to get a room facing the alley on the east side of the building. They empty the dumpsters early in the morning (4-6 AM) in the alley. I always try and get a room toward the back facing Main St. The traffic noise never has been a problem. Room 202 has a huge bathroom. I've requested this room in the past, but have been told that room is considered a 'premium' room and not eligible for a comp; but it never hurts to ask for it. I'll probalby try again on my Oct trip.

Glasses can affect your vision; especially when they have been emptied several times.....

Spring Break 2000 !!!
BIGlAR 73>>>>>>>You have a good writing style and described the experience very well. When I get a room on the Main Street side I do my best to get a walk in shower instead of the tub/shower combination..
We just booked the same offer for 9/21, a Saturday. We've never stayed here but free is free. I requested a room away from the FSE and they noted it on the reservation. We won't get to the GG until 10PM so we'll see what happens. Any other info on the rooms would be great.
