Mayweather vs Pacquiao Effect on Downtown?

I cant wrap my head around the insanity of Floyd vs Manny fight weekend. Will it be bigger than NBA All Star Weekend years ago?

How about Downtown. Will the low limit $1 BJ tables be replaced with $10 and $.50 Draft at LVC surge to $3?

As much as I love Vegas, I don't think I could have fun that weekend.

marko..
We have been staying downtown a couple of times over the years when a major fight has been in town. I haven't noticed much different. I think most of the people who come to town for the fight are people who prefer the strip over downtown.
good question marko62! I too will b downtown that weekend, apr 29-may 05. also Kentucky derby weekend I believe. but as far as boxing goes this is THE big event. biggest in decades maybe. all of vegas, including downtown will b at a fever pitch. I think downtown will b jumpin but manageable.
That weekend will be a Vegas Trifecta: Big fight, Kentucky Derby and Cinco De Mayo celebration. I had planned on attending the Wine Spectator Magazine wine tasting event at the Mirage that weekend, but when I considered the aforementioned events and checked hotel prices on the strip I pulled the plug on that idea...going to be one crazy, crowded weekend in Vegas. I would not be surprised if the table minimums will be raised to at least $10...especially in the evenings downtown.

Vegas.com has..... Downtown Grand April 30th to May 4th - $500.00, 4 Queens $480.00, El Cortez $370.00 and the Plaza @ $340.00. Downtown will definitly feel the Boxing fevor that weekend. IMHO.

Get your room soon!!
before this big event was announced, I had already booked rooms downtown for that weekend. I have apr 29th and 30th at 4 Queens $30 a night, and may 1 and 2 at Golden Gate for $79 a night including resort fee. I was there the same weekend last year. I am stoked! cant wait!! but I am a little concerned that they may try to pull some sh*t on me and sell my room to someone else for 3-4 times more $$. they wouldn't do that would they? both are booked thru vegas.com.
... I just checked vegas.com again. it is now $399 a night at golden gate, and I am paying $79 a night including the $20 a night resort fee! wow that is crazy. supply and demand I guess. and a whole lot of hype. perhaps I should sublet my room. just kidding.
Good thing you got the rooms when you did. You may want to call and confirm. Get a name from whomever you speak to also in case they try some b s later!

It starting to look like if you want Vegas all to yourself and hear some great stories from the staff, hit Vegas the weekend of May 8-10. They will still be cleaning up and the locals will still be recovering..

marko..
I just saw the hotel prices for downtown on Fight/Derby/Cinco weekend. Wow, I've never seen rates so high!

I don't understand the demand:
* Very few visitors will attend the fight, which is televised throughout the world.
* The Derby is, well, a two minute TV program centered around animals who have no idea they're racing.
* May 5 won't happen until Tuesday.

I'm happy for Vegas being able to anticipate such a profitable weekend. But I don't get it.
