MSS Hotel and Casino

W went ther for dinner one night and loved all the antiques of the plac and the history. Has anyone ever stayed there? Did yo like it, and how was the view? We liked our stay at the GN and liked the location. Not too impressed with the Califorina casino.
MSS is up there on our favorites list. The rooms are nothing to write home about but we don't go to Vegas for the rooms. No views. However, we like:
friendly employees from top to bottom
easy comps
good food
darker quieter atmosphere
decent gambling
small casino without the machines so close to each other you can not walk
scratch offs for 4OAK's always provide generous tips for our entire stay
and ......... we have been very lucky there.
I'd second everything Keith says, except that I have NOT been lucky there. Despite that, I still like the place a lot, primarily because of the employees.

Even when I'm staying somewhere else, I'll always include a couple of stops in there at 777 for a nice inexpensive meal or, at a minimum, at the casino bars for a couple of $1.75 beers. Oh yeah, and taking a leak on the Berlin Wall.

Certainly.

Moreover, a simple search for "MSS" in these forums turns up over 160 threads in the past year alone that discuss that hotel-casino, a favorite of the LVA crowd.

MSS was my "home away from home" for several years, staying 8-9 days at a time, 3-4 times a year. We even stayed there for almost a week when we moved to Vegas and were awaiting the arrival of our moving van, lol. The employees can't be beat for friendliness and service. The rooms are comfortable, but not fancy. I have a lot of good memories there.
What Keith and Sue said!
Sue got us going there after a meet arranged on these boards many years ago.

BTW if you can qualify for a silver or gold card the stay is even better. Silver (for most) and Gold (for all) dining cards let us eat or drink anything we want 24/7 all free (except for our generous tip).
To us this is the ultimate in food comps ie no hassle, no limit, and it seems that once you get one there must take a very good reason to deny it in the future.
I would describe the rooms as cozy. Not fancy or large. Window covering is blinds that do let in a bit of light (no black out curtains), a couple of arm chairs and a small frig for left overs or bottles of "water". Bathrooms are oldstyle holiday inn type.

Staff is great. Very friendly--a place where the bartenders know your name or at least your drink when you sit down. I have even received a kiss on the top of my head for luck--when hubby was hitting 4OAK's left and right and I couldn't catch one.

Mailed offers are easy to start getting and comps from the host are not usually to hard to get.

Food choices are limited, but if comped can choose food locations at the Cal and Fremont.

Place is far away enough from Fremont street that you don't have the noise and such from it, but close enough that if you want to head over to it--it's not a 3 day hike.
Both the California and MSS measure up the same way for me. I love the food joints, nice people, and antique look of the casinos.

On the downside, the machine inventory has become dated and needs to be updated. If you are looking for the latest slots and multi-line vp games you wont find them at either place.
To Keith or anyone else who can answer this, what are the current requirements to get the silver or gold cards, and is it based on coin in only or is win/loss game mix a factor? Thank you, -Russ
