MSS rooms/hotel vs The California rooms/hotel?

I just got a 5k Luau offer froom MSS/Cal offering me a shot at their "Hawaii's admissions day" celebration, 5k and 3 free nights at either property. I have stayed at MSS several times but never The Cal. Played at both too!

I'm wondering if the rooms are a step or a step down from MSS. Or are they on par?? It appears that all the Luau activites will be at the Cal so I'm also wondering if location trumps a better room (if in fact the LvA'ers view MSS as the better room).

I'm looking for any advice as soon as possible before this offer gets full from others!
About ten years ago, we tried the Cal a few times instead of MSS. As I remember, the rooms were slightly smaller, but still fine. I don't think they come with a fridge like MSS does. We did find it quieter for sleeping with no train going by. In the end, we went back to staying at MSS because the scratch cards bring in about $100 over three days. I would say give it a try, I don't think you would find it to be a bad thing.
Every room at the Cal that I have stayed in had a refrigerator.
The Cal website advertizes referidgerators in the room and when I stayed there last summer, I had a fridge that was definitely built into the dresser. This was in the west tower, so I'm not sure if rooms in both towers have them. A quick call could confirm. My room was basic hotel/motel and clean. The window only had shutters if that's a problem. My only complaint was the weather that week in August. Temps in the 90s, humidity in the 50s (in Vegas!!). Nothing to do with the room of course. The next to last day I had planned to visit the Mob Museum. Early morning was overcast and after breakfast I went up to the room to watch news. As they were predicting record downpours, the rain started. Within a half hour you could see the water deluging the streets. When I make a summer trip, I rarely bring shoes, just sandals. When I play golf I do it in sandals or the golf shoes in the bag I keep at my buddies place. So here I am, just two blocks from the museum, but not willing to wade over there. It rained all day long (another first for me in Vegas) and finally let up about five as I was crossing skybridge to the brewpub at MSS.

The only reason I probably wouldn't return would be a feeling of isolation to a degree. I have bad knees and walking to Fremont was just an added pain. Otherwise the hotel was fine. Aloha Specialties has a lot of nice island offerings and the snack bar on the casino floor has great sandwiches for cheap.

Good Luck!

The isolation from being at the Cal or MSS?

Thanks to all for the feedback!!

My understanding is that currently all of the rooms in both hotels now have refrigerators in all the rooms. I always try to stay in the tower in the middle of the California, which is the newer tower. If you get offers from the Cal, you can play at MSS to take advantage of the scratch cards. The play there counts just as much as if you were playing at the Cal towards offers and comps.

I have a hard time sleeping in the rooms at MSS due to freeway noise. Also at the Cal you are slightly closer to the Fremont Street Experience than you are at MSS.
Good point Lindsay!!
The Cal pictures are a little old but the Main Street pictures are fairly current

The noise at MSS hasn't been a problem for us. We turn the fan on the ac unit to run all the time and it drowns out the highway. We live on a dead end road so traffic noise is a big deal to us. As far as the train side of MSS--it only goes through a few times at night.
