Next Trip Booked! First Stay at DTG

Im a creature of habit and have always stayed at GG or Plaza, but took advantage of a great offer from DTG. Booked 2 comped nights that also includes slot free play, food credit at Freedom Beat and something new, free entry to the Mob Museum.

This will be my first stay at DTG and really looking forward to it. I know they have struggled for the past few years and have made some odd moves (constantly renaming the pool, moving the tables around, revolving door of management) but I like the place a lot.

Can someone offer a review or a tip for staying there?

thanks
marko..
I have stayed there 4 or 5 times now, with no major bumps. the rooms are near perfect for a standard room. they have made many odd moves (and amateurish) as you mention. I hope they find their way soon and stop this silly stuff. I like the pool when it is not too crowded. but it seems like each time I go they have designated more of the seating / lounge chairs to be only available for a fee. I HATE FEES! overall it is a good property and I hope you enjoy it. keep us posted.

Thanks for the info. I have been reading some of the Yelp reviews and they were mostly negative (complaints about the FSE noise and some of the staff). I just assumed they were Vegas first timers expecting the Wynn.
My trip is late Feb. so Im assuming a trip to the pool is out of the question, unless they have a party or band.
Have you visited the Mob Museum?

marko..
I've been to the Mob Museum 3 or 4 times now and it seems like I walk away picking up some information that I missed the previous times I was there. So I can tell you first hand that the Mob Museum is unequivocally worth the time and money you'll spend. Seeing as how you get admittance for free? I think you'd really be short changing yourself not to take the time. It's a self-guided tour so you can take as long or as little amount of time as you want. It usually takes me between an hour and an hour and a half to get through it. I also consistently spent the equivalent of the GDP for a 3rd world nation in their gift shop, so do know I'm a huge mob nerd!

Awesome. Thanks for the review. I was once on the fence, now all in for the Mob Museum.
Is it worth getting a post tour drink at the Mob Bar?

marko..
I stayed 3 times the first 2 years they were open.

- Rooms are nice but very Spartan. They give you the basics you need - bed, shower, tv, room safe....and everything is clean. Nothing is fancy.
- Don't pay up for the upgraded rooms. There's nothing better about them. I don't understand why mgmt thinks they are upgraded.
- Noise is an issue. You'll hear FSE until midnight. They give you earplugs. If you stay out late its no big deal.
- vibe is a little depressing. Most people still haven't figured out this place exists. Tables are frequently empty as is the VP bar. They closed the mob bar, lobby bar, and Chinese restaurant due to lack of interest.

I like the Grand but I'm worried about its future. You can understand why the Lady Luck struggled in the same location. We'll see how bad it gets when we hit the next economic recession.

I will keep that in mind. I may not spend more than an hour inside, but who knows. free is well within my price range.
Wait. So mob bar is closed?
Yes, sadly, to my knowledge, it is closed. Which is really too bad. I went one time, after having visited the Mob Museum, and was flabbergasted at what I found. There were doors in/out of Mob Bar which were on a diagonal to Stewart Ave & 3rd St. So if you were coming out of the Mob Museum, you'd see these two doors with a big sign called "The Mob Bar" over said doors. BUT THE DOORS WERE LOCKED!! You actually had to walk away from the Mob Museum to the middle of the DTG bldg to enter into the casino, then backtrack to get to The Mob Bar.

Listen, I get where they were coming from doing this: Make the person will come in through the casino to get to the bar, but maybe they'll gamble!!! But we actually thought the bar was closed when we first tried pulling on the doors and they wouldn't open. And while my wife and I had a round or two, we watched no less than 12 people exit the museum, come pull on the door handle, look at their watch and then at the hours stenciled on the door, re-pull on the door handle and just walk away. To my recollection, 1 couple ever actually came into the Mob Bar after we saw them originally at the doors.

Just stupid, stupid mis-management. Very disappointing.
