oscars at the plaza

is it open yet? if so, anyone eat there? if so, how are the prices? how s the food?
We stayed downtown last week. Yes, it is open. I can't comment further than that since we are on the frugal side and the prices are not.

alexlifeson...we enjoyed meeting you and watching the Packer game with you. I think I'm finally getting past the loss!

We stayed at the Plaza over NY weekend and had dinner on Sunday night.

Since we were a couple of minutes early for our 7pm reservations we stopped in the bar to order drinks before dinner. Got seated before the drinks were ready. When the waitress brought the drinks to the dining room we had to pay for them then and not add it to our bill. Something about the computer system. Hope that gets fixed. Kind of tacky. Martinis were excellent and so was the view.

We split a wedge salad with thier house dressing for the salad which was excellent. The bread basket of assorted breads was also very good. One of the waiters tried giving our salad to the wrong table. I had a filet mignon, Harry had baked salmon, we split a baked potatoe which was huge and I ordered mushrooms for the steak(also excellent) Food was good but not great. There was something missing.... like the service. And the food wasn't as hot as I expected it to be. It's like the kitchen hadn't timed everything correctly. They are still working out the kinks. It was a little rough. Total bill with the martini was $125. Total experience was almost 2 hours which really was too long for just the two of us. The view was excellent. Was very cool watching the canopy shows on Freemont.

Would we go again? Maybe.
what kind of prices did they have for martinis?
Vic, this is all pretty consistent with the reviews online: good but not memorable food, poor, slow service. I sure hope they get their act together, it's such a great location and concept.
Im thinking it was @$12 for a martini.
We ate there a couple weeks ago. IF you eat at the lounge you can order off either restaurants menu. If you eat at the steakhouse it is their menu and the Italian it is their menu.

We were seated by the window looking at Vegas Club and down Fremont. We did not have drinks other than a pop and iced tea. Rick ordered the meat/cheese plate which would have been enough for two. I ordered the chopped salad which was excellent. Had we known how good those items were I think we would have just ordered those two things.

I ordered the eggplant, and Rick had a family style meatball, sausage penne dish. The eggplant had ricotta cheese in it as it was rolled like a cylinder. It had a light sauce of tomato and cheese. It was very good and very well presented. Rick's meal was another story, it was just penne with a lone meatball and sausage. Family style meant they brought it in a bowl..He said it was good but the eggplant looked better and he is not an eggplant fan.

The total bill was $80+ and it did take over 2 hrs for the meal. We did not get a bread basket. We asked for plates to share the app and salad. The waitess/hostess brought it out as we were finishing the meal. When we asked her about a type of meat on the meat/cheese tray she said they had trained them in the food aspects of service.

All in all it was a nice experience, but I think I will try Hugo's Cellar next time.
