Yes, you can safely walk there during the day. Like tonyrob said, you "probably' wont see any of the stars.

Is it worth it? One time, to get a picture and scratch it off the Las Vegas bucket list....yes, its worth it.
I have been there like 5 times and get a kick out of seeing some of the stuff that I have seen on the show.

I agree with the previous two responses. If you are concerned about the walk, it's close enough that a taxi wouldn't cost much. They also have plenty of parking available if you have a rental car. We went shortly after the show began airing and I managed to get my picture with the old man - we've been back several times since and haven't seen any of the stars with the exception of the bouncer/security guy sitting by the front door. We've also been kicked out twice so they could do filming. Don't expect to find any bargains - never bought anything except refrigerator magnets!

We've also been to the American Restoration location (close to downtown and the pawn shop) and almost always seen Rick or another of the cast doing their daily tasks. (They have a brief free tour of their shop.)

The bus drops you off very close. That's what we did. Fun to see once.

My wife and I went back in 2009, we did see Big Hoss and Rick-although just passing through on their way to lunch. There was no line in the afternoon on a week day. But ..that was in 2009......they just did a re-furb of the store...bigger and better now. I also sold a gold watch there for $50 bucks.
