Pay for the Strip or Free Downtown?

Coming out early 2017 for my wifes first trip to Vegas.

Since this will be her first experience in Sin City, I was going to spend the money on a good room overlooking the Strip (she doesn't gamble, so I can use that money for a nicer room).

However, I could use comps for a room downtown thus, giving us more show/attraction/food money.

So, for a first timer, would you spend the money for a room on the Strip or take advantage of free Downtown?

Marko: You don't say how long your trip is. However, if it is 4 days or longer, I would split it up --2 on the strip, 2 or more downtown. This way your wife can experience both sides of Las Vegas.
The money you save downtown will pay for a ride on the Ferris wheel and cocktails at the top of the Eiffel Tower.
Of course, you do realize it's not up to you., right?
I'd start on the strip, it's iconic and you understand it better if you're in the middle of it. Of course, I'd get downtown before the weekend starts. Enjoy!

I agree. for a first-timer, somewhere near center-strip for at least 2 nights. it don't have to be a fancy room, most people spend very little time in the room. If you don't have any comps or discounts on the strip, vegas.com is a great place to start for rooms. I have not been to the strip in years, but if I were bringing a newbie, I would deal with it for a couple of days.

Sadly, its a quick trip to see a concert (landing early Friday, out Sunday afternoon).
I think we will stick with a Strip Room and I'll take her Downtown Saturday for lunch.
It was a longer stay, I like the idea of 2 nights Strip/2 nights Downtown.

I go back and forth on this question all the time when I am going myself. But I gamble downtown and will take the express bus to save money.
If your wife is not a gambler, what will she do downtown??
Hey Marko,

Another option for you might be staying at a place that at least currently (hopefully the change of ownership will not end up downgrading machines) has not so bad gaming and is right by the Strip. That place would be Palms where you also could make use of Palms coupons (assuming that with the change in ownership things will still continue as they are) plus other coupons from LVA MRB and/or the other coupon book.

Although the 50% off LVA MRB coupon (hopefully that coupon will be available in the 2017 LVA MRB) is only good Sunday-Thursday and so I don't think it would be good to be used on a hotel stay on Friday and/or Saturday nights, you still might be able to use it for something on the Sunday that you're leaving LV (unless you save that for another trip before the end of that year).

Great point on Palms.. Will look into that.

Thanks!
Marko..

You're very welcome! Check again my previous post because I have now changed some of it. Hopefully with the change in ownership in Palms, things will still be the same next year.
