Plaza - high and low lights

I just got back from staying for a week at the Plaza, here are the high/low lights

#1The room are newly referbished and clean as advertised. Our room was Brown/Tan and had 4 square walls. The matresses (2 queens) were firm and I slept like a rock!
#2 The bath rooms are as small or smaller than the Fremonts (well room 1453's was anyway!)if you have mobility issues do not take this room, I had to tip toe between the toilet and the shower to close the door.
#3 They did not fix the drains when they remodeled. At the end of every shower (including drying off) you were still ankle deep in showerwater.
#4 The room has a nice digital safe just outside the bathroom.
#5 The room had a nice 32" flat screen tv, with the most channels I have ever seen in a casino (dish network). Oddly I did not see a menu for any porn or hotel eminities as you normally see in a casino hotel room (I did not search for either mind you)
#6 Years ago, the Plaza had a small laundry area which comes in handy for longer stays. We were told they no longer had one and we had to go to Sahara Blvd to find one clean enough to do our's in.
#7 The pool area was open and clean. They tried to hide some of the roof vents by the pool by boxing them in and painting them brown. Every time I looked out my window onto the pool area there were 30 to 40 people enjoying themselves (all 6 days were 88 to 92 degrees-not a cloud in the sky!)
#8 The Hash House a go go never had a line to get in!
#9 The work out area had tread mills, eliptical machines, a universal weight machine, a small amount of free weights, some other various weight equipment in a 20 x 30 ft room
#10 The youngest drink server at the Plaza had to be 65 years old (no shit- it was awfull!)
#11 We scored a free refidgerator for 6 days using the $10 trick
#12 Internet cost me $11.95 for 24 hours
#13 There are two internet / printing machines just outside the hotel check in area to print airline boarding passes. $5 minimum
#14 There was no 13th floor at the Plaza as expected but there was no 2nd floor either!
#15 We walked up to Oscars new steak house and walked quickly away as we were"way" under dressed for that place. Will try it the next time out.
Did I forgt anything?

Over all you cant beat $29 a night for a clean, newly renovated room. I will stay there again

Weggie

Thanks for sharing.

#16 oh yeah, The mob musium is within walking distance from Fremont street. In fact its on the opposite side of the street from Binions parking garage
#17 It cost $3 to park at the mob musium and $18ea. to get in. We got up to the doors and bailed when we saw the cost. I am going to wait for a coupon to come out
-CONS
Bathroom was teeny tiny
no place to really hang up clothes
check in sucked
casino was boring
parking-brutal

PROS
Large room
Bed was awesome. slept like a rock aswell...
Curtians blocked out every bit of light
quiet.. hardly heard the other doors close
we had a great view of Fremont...was loud but we'll worth it.

Thanks Weggie! I have stayed at the Plaza dozens of times over the last 15 years, and room quality certainly declined over time (to say the least). I will be there for a week in July, and can't wait to see it! With all the renovations, the rooms have to be better than they were. I just hope the casino itself hasn't changed too much!

Ill be taking advantage of some comp rooms at the GG this July and cant wait to check out the new Plaza. I have always enjoyed staying there, even before the renovations when it was pretty dumpy.
The biggest high had always been low limits and good drink service while the low points was the grime and the horrible elevators. I plan on spending a good amount of time there this trip so I can get back on the Plaza comp list.
Plus, Ive always liked the pool at the Plaza. I dont need the out of control "Rehab" style pool scene. Just a cold pool, some beverages and a chair. Plus, the view is great.
This will be my annual solo trip and its gonna be a good one..

marko..
Thanks Weggie,
I am coming out in August and am looking forward to trying out the New Plaza. It sounds like there are a lot more Pros than Cons. Do you have any suggestions for rooms away from Fremont noise that have a Strip view? I haven't received any offers, but booking on the website is about $34 per night -- can't go wrong with that!
Hey Weggie,

Thanks for the posting and unless things have changed since 2/28/2012, Plaza by the coffee bar right off of the Front entrance (and also they were in Las Vegas Club by the Slot Club Booth and Gift Shop) had Internet Kiosks where it was $1 Minimum and 20 Cents A Minute and printed pages cost 50 Cents per page.

And if I'm remembering correctly, El Cortez also had them with a $1 Minimum but it was 25 Cents A Minute and then 50 Cents for each printed page.

When I was there in February, I also had a view of the pool (#7) and I never saw anyone there. I guess that since 2/28 they have fixed it up since then.

And yes, even though (#2) the rooms have been renovated, the bathroom is still small where it could be hard to have two people in there at the same time!

And I forgot about #9, I'll have to try it the next time I visit (which may be next month)!

And maybe I missed that there was a safe (#4) there. Do they charge $ for it?

And if I'm remembering correctly, I think that there actually is a coupon for the New Mob Museum (#17) with the www.couponsinvegas.com website which is the site for the new MRB Online coupons.

We ate at Oscar's in January. We wore casual clothes and had no problems. Overpriced but food was good. The chopped salad was very good as was the antipasti
Thanks for posting this. We stayed at the Plaza in January; I miss the somewhat less crappy VP inventory, but really like the renovation. Good to hear that Oscar's had good food; the initial reviews were very bad: horrible service, very ordinary food. We really liked Island Sushi for Hawaiian food and poke.

By the way, the Internet kiosk (near the players club) at the LV Club is $1 minimum, too.
