Plaza info

We are doing a January trip five nights at Paris, and two nights at somewhere Downtown. This would be our first time staying downtown. Did some research, and narrowed it down to the Golden Nugget or Plaza. Rates are cheaper at the Plaza, and there is an upgrade deal to a mini suite . Also, they will match our Diamond status with their corresponding level. Room quality is a consideration for the wife. Me, I can sleep in a doorway. Your thoughts? Bob
We liked the Plaza and will be staying there again.
They had problems with the elevators while we were there.

for GN, it's about the tower. Carson tower, though dated, is easily checked in at kiosk-my favorite. The other towers are likely more what your wife likes, I'm guessing. The plaza elevators are slower than GN, but it only matters at peak times, IMO. The card upgrade, meh. I'm still waiting for my upgraded card to yield a 50% freeplay bonus, and I'll probably lose a little more than I should on the plaza VP at short pay next week. But the VP paytables are still better than GN. The dining options went down recently at GN. but I'm no expert. Good luck!
Consider the new Downtown Grand as an option.

The Nugget's rooms definitely one-up the Plaza....especially the Rush Tower rooms. I like the crowd and casino much better at the Plaza. I've stayed at the Golden Nugget the last 2 years but primarily do my gambling at the D and El Cortez.

Yeah, we are just looking for a nice room so that we can hit all the various properties up and down the FSE . Based on what I've read, probably won't gamble much at the Plaza or GN . Bob
I go to Las Vegas 3 to 4 times a year and almost always stay somewhere on Fremont Street. Where I actually stay is usually dictated by #1if the wife goes and #2 the cost/value. I have stayed at all casino's on Fremont except Binions and the old lady luck at one time or another.
"normally" I stay at the Golden Nugget if the princess goes because she can be a pain in the ass if everything doesn't go perfectly, and the last thing I need in Vegas is a pissed off wife. For example last May the Plaza was pumping perfume into the casino and my wife just refused to step into the place, luckily I had booked at the Nugget and it was a non issue.
The Plaza tries desperately to upgrade everything and then shoot themselves in the foot afterwards. For example, I just got back Saturday 11-02 from a 4 night stay at the Plaza. The check in was an hour long as the computers were down for the 24 hours (Tuesday 10-29). Crap like this happens at the Plaza. Check the boards about the Plaza's elevators! Since I was by myself it wasn't really an issue as I went to eat while they hand wrote the check in paperwork.
If you watch the room prices on the nuggets web site they go down and down as the dates gets closer. So, if your like me and need to keep the wife happy and want a good price, I would recommend the Golden Nuggets "GOLD or "RUSH" towers real close to your actual stay date or possibly upgrading your room using your Landry's card.
If your wife is more accommodating (give her a kiss-she's a keeper!), the Carson tower at the nugget can be a good deal real close to your actual stay date, but they do so much business that the rooms are just starting to look worn. I would consider the Golden Nuggets Carson tower rooms and The plaza's newly remodeled deluxe rooms inter-changeable as far as cleanliness, price, and value (IMHO).
I have had some great rooms in the nuggets rush tower (Jr. suites) but have never seen any of the Plaza's suites so someone else will have to chime in on that issue.
Good luck and enjoy your stay

don't waste your time with THE D.....maybe Main St. Station? It looks really nice and they have a nice brewery eatery there with $2.00 micro-brews. Also the Downtown Grand looks nice. We just got back from a week at THE D, ugh. Too Loud-not friendly-slots stink-nothing good there. Have Fun. Make sure you get your picture taken for free at Binions with the million dollars, and if penny slots are your thing try Mermaids or The Bayou --lots of free drinks there .
I was considering the Main street station until I read about the shutters and the train/traffic noise . I always ask for a "quiet " room when I travel., and I gotta have a dark room. I think I will follow the advice about waiting till closer to the trip dates. I would be staying on a weds , and Thursday so They shouldn't be booked up. Thanks to all for the good info ! Bob
If you have the air conditioning on at MSS you don't hear the traffic.
Also we never had a problem with the room not being dark enough.
Main Street Station has been our favourite downtown hotel foe many visite and we will be there again in December.
Having said that we loved the Plaza (other than the elevators being broken) and have already booked 5 nights for Easter. We called the host that we met and he has comped all 5 nights. During our last stay we averaged 500 points each per day.
Their new signup promotion is the best I have seem. Lose $100.00 in the first day and get it back - $50.00 Freeplay the following day and another $50.00 Freeplay the day after that.

Plaza and MSS are both great choices in my opinion.
Golden Nugget is more like a Strip Resort with really good rooms - but very tight slots and VP.
