We have an upcoming comped stay at the Plaza and its our first time staying there. Looking to stay in a relatively quiet room so looking for suggestions as to what tower to ask for to accomplish this.

Blonde4ever, one of the regular posters here, just stayed at the Plaza, so she should be able to give you a good recommendation.
South tower, facing the strip. Also, you do not want a junior suite at the plaza, they are all facing Fremont Street and Circa Stadium Swim which both have a boom boom boom of music until 2-3am.
All rooms facing Fremont no matter the height will be rediculously noisy. Avoid if you go to bed before 3am on weekends.
Note, South tower facing the strip will have at least 1 train go by at 5am, but this is far superior to non stop music from Fremont.
North tower can be ok facing the mountains but I found them more affected by the train noise than the South tower.
South tower is also preferred if you have a car, the garage is on that side, you won't need to drag your bags across the casino. Though if you do get a North tower room, take the 3rd floor across past the bingo hall instead of the casino floor, it's a direct route.
Another benefit to the South tower is if you park on the 3rd floor of the garage you can avoid the garage elevator and just walk around to the tower elevators and get on there. The garage elevators are notoriously slow.
I stay at the Plaza every trip. I always stay in a Luxe room in the North Tower. Very quiet. I never notice the trains because the hum of the air conditioning drowns out the sound.
