Reflections from our Downtown Stay 10.12.13

we just got back 10.21.13 from a week at THE D, we were not impressed at all...music is not only too loud but not good music, drafts at the long bar are $5 compared to $2 at MSS for microbrews, the parking garage is a night mare, the bathrooms were not that clean (tiles are old) - we will not stay there again. PLUS THAT STUPID RESORT FEE, spare me. We booked our trip, paid for it, and when we checked in they charged us for that resort fee. Swimming Pool? Spare me. In the middle of their parking lot? nice, real classy. Not. Hello Downtown Grand-here we come.

We did enjoy microbrews and food at MSS Brewery -$2.00 drafts, good deal, Nice casino too.
Enjoyed the Streetz Festival at the Cortez- lots of free drinks at the Mermaid and Bayou.
Doller Margaritas at The Fremont. Good breakfast at Dennys. That "Neonopolis" is pretty empty with the
closing of their 2 clubs recently....Fremont Street East is just a bunch of overpriced bars-why go there when you can stay on Fremont Street and drink for less-go to the ABC store and buy 2 tall beers for $5 bucks and just drink them on the street (use plastic cups-nobody hastles you)

Ventured briefly over to the Downtown Grand (opening Oct. 27 I beleive)...looks very nice, peeked into the windows, cant' wait to stay there next time.
I was Downtown last week (from 10/14-10/17) and never made it into the D. They have sent me offers for Buy One Night (but they don't say what the rate is) and Get One Free plus some $5 Matchplay coupons. I was just too tied up playing between Las Vegas Club, a tiny bit at Plaza, El Cortez, Four Queens and a little bit at Fremont.

When I've been at the D, I've relegated my visits to upstairs where there not only is better gaming, but also better and quieter music.

And I wouldn't be too happy with that ridiculous "Resort Fee."

ya we did play upstairs at The D a little bit, liked the old school slots and the old fashioned horse game....still didn't stay there too long, too much to do every where else ! We don't gamble a lot but like to hit the slots at the different casinos and look around. Main Street Station looks pretty nice....I was surprised. Take it Easy and ................good luck !
I played at the "D" last week upstairs. It was early morning, pretty quiet, but that's how I like it. Used the coupon for coney dogs for breakfast. They were just OK, I prefer Lafayettes coneys in Detroit.

Upstairs at The D is the place to play. Much, much, much more quieter. They play 'oldies', in theme with the Vintage Vegas coin-dropper slots. The VP progressives are sometimes playable (i.e. >100%).
The progressive VP at the upstairs bar is some of the best anywhere in the city. Many full pay games to choose from plus the progressive on top of that...plus fast-n-free drinks at the bar.

OK - I'm just gonna say its the best bar-top vp in the city. I don't know anyplace else that has that.

But, yeah, the music downstairs blows.

For bartop VP, I've never seen it better than at Bar 702, the bar Anthony Curtis helped dress up for Bar Rescue this past spring.

I was there on Sunday October 13 from about 7 to 8P. I had the entire place to myself, not one customer even opened the door.

I played full-pay (10/7) Double Bonus VP for the full hour and talked to the bored bartender who gave me my $20 signup bonus and kept my glasses full. I had good luck on the machine and won an additional bonus from the bar's player's club, which gives active players freeplay every now and then.

I don't see how this place can operate like that. But for a value player like me, that was about the best bartop VP experience I've ever had. Get in while you can.
