Rooms at The Golden Gate

I'm looking to put our group of 15 in this hotel for our October trip.  If I do, we'll book one Penthouse Suite, which will be are party room for football watching and hanging out.  Beyond that, we'll need a series of standard rooms and/or Golden Gate Suites.  Here are my questions.

1.  Is there enough room for 15 to gather comfortably in the Penthouse Suite?  I've seen pictures, but these photographers have a way of making a room look larger than reality.

2.  If you've stayed The Golden Gate, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the standard double rooms and/or the Golden Gate Suites.

3.  Am I correct that none of the Golden Gate Suites have two beds?

4.  Which rooms are most quite and/or best?

5.  Any other ideas are appreciated.

Thank you!

Stayed @ Golden Gate on Valentines Day.  2nd floor on Fremont side.  It was noisy but it didn't bother me much.  Room needs serious uprgrading & was very small(including bathroom).  It was clean.  Probably would't stay there again.  The D was overbooked so they didn't receive our reservation which was booked late(our fault).

we stayed there several years ago.  Top floor facing the plaza.  Very small and dated, but I think the o;d school feel was the intention .  Fun experence, but we had better options so olny stayed the one night of the comped 3 night stay.

I have stayed there before the regular rooms are very small and dated.  I am not sure it will meet your needs. If you are looking for less expensive and large rooms would the tez work.  However the location of the golden gate is awsome.

IMHO the only downtown rooms suitable for a large gathering that don't cost an arm and a leg are the Tower suites at the El Cortez.

For once I agree with Kevin.....the newly remodeled tower rooms at El Cortez (which were probably remodeled since Kevin's last visit) have plenty of room and are about as swaky as one can get the the El Cortez.  I also like the DownTown Grand and the new tower is darn nice as well, but the casino is definely not hopping.

I have no experience with the suites.   The standard rooms are tiny.    The bathroom in particular is about the same size as the one you find in a standard RV....and the shower head is at chest level so you need to bend down to get your head wet.       As a 6'4" man it was not accomodating.   No intention of ever staying there again.

The Tower rooms are huge. The Vintage and Pavilion rooms--which are much cheaper---are indeed tiny. I haven't been in a Tower room since the remodel. The pictures look quite nice. Those rooms, by the way, have a spacious walk-in shower now. So you might consider the EC as an option in the future.

I have stayed there since the remodel and the bathrooms are amazing. Not sure how the differentiate the room I stayed in was two rooms my friends were in a standard hotel room.  But both had great showers. The room I was in had a large outer room but not sure if 15 could be in the room and see the game on the TV or even fit comfortably.

Thanks guys.  I've not yet been able to find a video or pictures of the tower suites.  Can they comfortably fit 15 for hours and hours of football watching?

I've asked the Cortez about the Jackie Gaughan Suite, as it's large enough.  It's a bit pricy, but it might work for us............along with the upgraded Tower rooms.
