Rumor of Downtown Grand being sold

I used to spend most of my bankroll at Fremont S casinos.    Now I do the coupon run and I'm outta there.
I understand how the strip has moved their customers away from gambling to other revenue sources which is their excuse for tightening up the casinos.   But what does downtown think they are doing?   They don't have other sources.

Where do you prefer to gamble these days, PJ?  Jane from Indy

We stayed at the Downtown Grand a couple of years ago because of the coupons waiving the resort fee. Nothing special. Casino is really small. Restaurant wasn't very good. Most recently stayed at Fremont. Liked it pretty much. Staying again in December. The attraction of Downtown is the closeness of everything. Yeah, it's seedy and crowded but that's the way it is. We like being able to walk easily between properties. Things on the strip are so far apart.

Hi Jane - nice to see another Indy person here.

I mostly play at locals casinos like South Point, Boulder Station, M-Resort.....and a little Ellis Island.   Those arent as good as they used to be either but they are all better than downtown and the strip.

Cheers !

We hit up SP last trip for a poker tournament, which was pretty decent.  I really liked the place, easy free parking and although we didn't hit up the buffet, it looked to be packed with locals lining up for crab or something like it.  I'd love to go back and try it.

I stayed one night at the M on my trip about a month ago. It was very quiet on a Wed night and Thursday morning, but still a nice property and hotel room. I appreciated their decent vp selection too.

Yep. Both The M and South Point have decent VP, which is becoming harder to find these days.

I saw an update on Downtown Grand that they have removed all decent video poker and best game is now 7/5 Bonus Poker. Unless they still have 3/2 blackjack at their $5 table, I really don't see a reason to stop by again except to use a matchplay. A shame really, as their rooms are quiet and decent (I've stayed twice) and they used to give us reasons to gamble there.

The Grand has done a 180 from their good games/good deals approach. All that's left is the LVA matchplay, worth $12. You get another matchplay when you check in. Still a nice place to stay, especially with the resort fee coupon.

The past 4 years I have stayed at the Grand 3 times. I found the rooms to be nice. The gambling, not so much. Last time I attempted to eat there, after being seated, I was ignored for 10 minutes, even though there were few people dining. They looked short staffed and I grew tired of waiting. They reminded me of the service at Siegel's @ El Cortez. Neither place do I now go to to eat. Last year Anthony brought life to the Grand with his tournaments and then, for some reason, the Grand terminated the tournaments and the place has gone downhill since. Apparently the management has no clue how to run a casino - except into the ground.

The DT took a big nose dive when Andrew Economon, who was the GM, left the casino.  Not sure why he left, but after he left, so did the tournaments, and all the good VP pay schedules.  Also hasn't helped that it was up for sale at some point.  Not sure if it's still on the market, though.
