Rumor of Downtown Grand being sold

You paid a deposit?

WTF, why? Did a charge actually hit your account?

(BYW, don't worry, you won't lose your money.)

I remember the days way back when paying a deposit for a hotel room was the thing to do.   Especially when late arrival was anticipated, it was thought a deposit necessary to insure the reservation was not cancelled should the customer arrive late, like after midnight.  I'm remembering posters complaining that paying a deposit only complicated things, tho I can't remember what and why.

I recall one frequent LVA poster telling a horror story:  even tho he had paid a deposit, when he arrived late as he knew he would (someplace in Vegas...can't recall), he was told no room available.  After he pointed out he had paid a deposit, the hotel secured him a room at another property, tho he had to pay for taxi to that property.  He was furious!

I suspect reservation systems are upgraded enough these days to avoid that type of problem.

Perhaps Adrian may booked through a travel agency or an online booking site and was compelled to pay a deposit?  Too bad.

The GN was a nice reasonable place to stay. My spot in The 1990's.The downtown has slowly gotten trashy.Maybe I feel that way because of my age.

The Fremont Experience interesting. Yet I feel street bands, zip lines, and street artist of all types getting a bit much.Thats just me.

Downtown has gotten trashy.  That's why me and my 17 college friends are going for the second time to Laughlin...after 40 straight annual trips to Vegas.  We've had enough of the crazy prices on the strip, and the trashiness in downtown.

Have a great time in Laughlin, Boiler!

To me Fremont St is a combo of Times Sq and Penn Station.  At times fun, other times freaky and other times scary.

The police have at least 3 cars lined up by the 4 Queens at all times.  As 1 car loads up and leaves another 1 comes over.

Not a fan of Laughlin, even though it is on the way from Phoenix, but have a good time!  Good company always makes for a good time.

Southpoint could be good hangout, good food, entertainment every night & a good Sportsbook, but off the beaten path.

That's ludicrous. "At least three cars lined up at all times"?? WHERE?

The porte cochere, such as it is, is a narrow lane where the valet works. Out on Third Street, a dead end, there are taxis, rideshares, and people coming in and out of the D parking garage. There isn't ROOM for more than one police car. Maybe Tom doesn't know that cars don't travel on that part of Fremont Street.

I'd feel safer in that part of town than almost anywhere else. There's far too much activity for any real mayhem to happen, and yes, there's a police presence AND the various security squads from the casinos.

Downtown Vegas may be "trashy," as Boilerman (ignorantly) puts it, but unsafe? Naah!

I agree. I frequent Downtown every trip I make and have never had a problem. I do know that the Police have zero tolerance for any wrongdoing there and that, to me, equates to safety.

If kevin actually went to Vegas (instead of reading about it & watching videos) he would know that the cars are parked on the corner of the 4Q and Casino Ctr Blvd.

Never said it was dangerous but apparently there is enough activity for the police to have that much presence

Aren't they just parking there since the Police substation is next to Walgreens?

In any case, I feel safe walking Fremont from Plaza to Container Park most hours of the day and early evening, but I'm not gonna hang around Fremont at all when rap groups are playing on any FSE stage.  The IQ drops to an average of about 89 and alcohol and drugs aren't helping that scene.

That's not "by the Four Queens"; it's by the police substation.

Going to vegas soon and will be staying here part of the time.

Decided to stay partially because I stayed at Lady Luck the first time I went to Vegas as an adult and thought it would be fun to see what it's like now. But mostly because they had a pretty good special. 2 nights (fri and sat) totals $250 after taxes and fees. Includes a $100 f&b credit and 4 "drink tickets". Looking at spending the f&b credit at triple George while also using the lva 100 for 75 coupon.

Had trouble finding a better deal than that for the weekend.

Side note, the location is actually one of the things I kind of like about it. Still close to everything but far enough away you don't hear a lot of stuff from the room.
