The author of this blog decries the fact that the FSE is public space and that this McDonalds is open tp the public--thus, the plague of "undesirables." The casinos can't have it both ways. The presence of homeless/vagrants/foul bums who should be exterminated is a direct manifestation of the social problems that casinos cause. You don't like bums and drunks, don't make a core business model of taking away people's money and letting them get wasted 24/7.

Also...I really wish this guy would learn what a paragraph is. I know that ignoring basic rules of writing style is kind of an internet trope, but it's not a good look. That's a shame, because his stuff is very readable otherwise.

I found this article to be an interesting read. I personally have never supped/drank anything from that McDonalds. As owners, the Stephens brothers have the right to do as they wish with their prop[erty, as long as what they do is legal. Their reasons for buying out this McDonalds and what they plan to do with the space is their business.

I'm guessing most of the Vegas bums didn't lose much or any money gambling.

Actually, quite a few of them do have some money/income, but they constantly lose it at the casinos--which keeps them in their lowly situation. Casinos feast on the poor and gullible.

Every business in the world is in business to make money. People make choices, and whatever choices they make are their responsibility.

I applaud the decision to close McDs to promote a better environment for those who are patronizing the casino.

In this instance "Down on their luck" is a catchphrase used to generate sympathy for vagrants and panhandlers.  It doesn't mean the right to contaminate the environment of those who have worked and saved to enjoy a clean and safe environment on a weekend or vacation.  JMHO.

I've found that phrases like "down on their luck" are most vehemently derided by those who have never been down on their luck. Shit happens. That includes one's circumstances deteriorating, often very quickly. Those who haven't experienced such a downturn tell themselves that it's because of their skill, their nobility, their derring-do. And by extension, those "bums" must be in the state they're in because they lack OUR skill, nobility, and derring-do.

And sure, let's label them as pejoratively as we can: "vagrants and panhandlers." That way, we can categorize them the way we categorize every marginalized group--as subhuman and not worthy of basic consideration, never mind sympathy or help. It's something we do really well in AMURRICA.

And ya know what? At any hour of the day, there are plenty of regular noble casino patrons there who are loud, disruptive, stoned, or drunk. But they, as well as those filthy vagrants and panhandlers, have the absolute right to be in a public space. Being a filthy subhuman vagrant is not against the law.

I remember when the d was Fitzgeralds and they had a small room in the back where you could play old 3 coin slot machines with the denomination reduced to a penny.   So max coin was 3 cents per pull.    Pretty sure that room was specifically designed to take the last dollar away from homeless gambling degenerates.

I don't think I ever stepped foot in the McD there.    Homeless people are a difficult problem.    People want compassion but they also want to patronize businesses without being shaken down by vagrants.   I don't know where you draw the line so I don't fault the casino for their action.
