Siegel's at El Cortez

I was just looking at their menu online. Looks like they have upgraded and are offering some higher end items again. The menu looks more like the old "Flame" with steaks and ala carte sides. Anyone try it recently?

The last few years I've earned more comps than I can spend at El Co so it would be nice to have some higher quality entrees to blow my comps on.
Well, if you like prime rib. Look no further. They have some higher priced cuts on the menu ($20-30) price range, but we just ask for the prime rib special that is not on the menu. The prime rib special is $10.95 and it is offered every day at any time. My wife and I just love it, because it is a decent sized piece (maybe 12 ounces), and is just right if you are not extremely hungry and/or do not want to go away from the table stuffed.

The special includes a quality piece of meat, choice of potato, some complementary mixed vegetables, and their two dipping sauces. The sauces are great. They automatically include a generous portion of au jus, and a nice container of mixed horseradish and sour creme. This meal always satisfies us because we've usually have had some beers or cocktails before the meal. Try it. You can't beat the price and the quality is very good in my opinion.

Some of the entrees are nearly the same as the Flame/Robertas used to have. My son had the filet mignon and an order of king crab legs on our July trip - he loved it. My lovely wife likes the pricier prime rib from the menu better than the "special." With the LVA 2-for-1 coupon it's a great deal!

Had our first meal there using the LVA coupon last week. The menu has a huge variety with breakfast items, sandwiches, burgers, pasta and higher end beef entrees. We had the house burger and lasagna with salad and soup. Huge portions, and we were stuffed! I thought the atmosphere was cafeteria-like, but we were there for lunch, and perhaps the lighting and vibe is different with the night crowd.

Thanks for the comments from everyone. Went there last night and I had the prime rib special. The atmosphere is definitely school cafeteria and the service is barely ok. That said the prime rib was great.
We ate there Sept. 12. Used the 2-1 and the $15 credit we got when we booked our room there. The food was great. Service was good. I wonder why sandy Paws said it was barely ok.
Food was very good. Service was the problem....and felt like it was a cafeteria. Not like the steakhouse of old that was there.
I have to agree with Sandy, we ate at Siegel's in February, it was a disappointment. I think they tried to get the best of Roberta's (yeah, I know it's been The Flame in recent years) and Careful Kitty's and got neither. We were honestly underwhelmed with the food, it was okay but not up to Roberta's quality. I don't care about the ambience much, but I think Sandy is right on the money, very cafeteria-like room. As for service, we got stuck with a waiter that we had had before, someone who should have been fired years ago. Never gets anything right, then always has an excuse, blames it on the busboy, on the kitchen, or says that we didn't need what we asked for anyway. Don't remember the guy's name, but he has a triangular head, kind of looks like the guy on the cover of those Idiot's Guide books.
If you eat a fairly early breakfast, you can watch the original Oceans 11 on the TV while you're eating. I think it starts around 7:00 or so every morning. I've heard complaints about that waiter before, going back to when it was The Flame. I've actually always had good service from him.

I'd call the atmosphere more of what I would have expected from a coffee shop (think Shoney's or Bob's Big Boy) way back in the day. Or the restaurants that Perry Mason would have taken Della to for dinner. Either that or I went to a really crappy school.

I thought it was a mistake to combine the two restaurants into one. They took a lot of the healthier options and other options I really liked off the menu. (They had actually done that before they closed the cafe.) And the prices are definitely high for downtown, but I don't have major complaints with it. I haven't tried any of the options that used to be on The Flame's menu. Maybe if they brought back the creamed corn...
Does anyone have any experience in eating in the corner room at the El Cortez near the keno parlor? I think they serve spaghetti (pasta) and pizza. I never really see much action in that room. Is it just take out or what? It seems like it's not doing too well although I've heard some nice jazz guitarist playing there on occasion.
