So They're Really Going to Call It "the D" . . .

Or "the D Las Vegas" as Today's News has it. The new name for Fitzgerald's.

What an AWFUL name. I don't have a problem with doing something that plays off "downtown", where the casino sits.

But the other reasons for "the D"? According to TN, it's because the owner's first name is "Derek", and because he's from "Detroit".

That's industrial grade stupid. Obnoxious, self-aggrandizing, bad business Trump dumb. The sort of thing teens do when they personalize the license plate of their first car.

Even if they're true, the owner should not mention his personal reasons for choosing the name, they just make him seem like a tool.

And they're closing the Krispy Kreme to make room for an elevator.

Boo. Hiss. repeat.
Dreadful !!

Another section of "old Vegas" that is going to be ruined by a douchebag who'll probably sell the thing within 2 years when he loses his shirt because he doesn't know jacks*it about running a casino...

But I've been wrong before...

Has anyone heard whether our Fitz comp points will be honored? I'm heading out at the first of the month and would like to cash them in, if so. Seems like I heard somewhere that they were giving multiple points for buying closeout Fitz stuff. Works for me....kinda liked the Irishy theme.

Let me know if you've heard.
I asked this question in the Coupons forum, but does anyone know if they'll honor the Fitzgerald's LVA MRB coupons? I wanted to use the free play bonus coupon during spring break, especially if they keep their good video poker machines.
Monkeyshed,
I read an article a while back regarding the new ownership of the Fitz. I recall that the article said that the points will be carried over. Hopefully that is true.....

Maybe they'll move into a corner of Heart Attack Grill - Now THERE is a good fit!

I'm guessing nobody here has actually met Derek Stevens. How many casino owners are on the casino floor every night interacting with their customers? Derek Stevens does that at the Golden Gate. The very positive turn-around that the Riviera has been experiencing over the last two years has his fingerprints all over it, as he is also a primary in the new ownership group there. The guy absolutely knows how to run a casino in a very gambler-friendly way with low limits and better odds than most of the other operators in Las Vegas. I see no negatives with the Stevens brothers taking over the Fitz. As for renaming it the D, I don't recall anyone verbally trashing the Marnells when they named their new casino The M Resort.
