Strip Gal Spending Two Nights at El Co -- Your Must Dos?!

Across the street from ElCo is a FABULOUS Thai Restaurant. Le Thai is very reasonably priced. Be aware, when you're asked how hot you want the dish on a scale of 1-5, you'd be well advised to go a number or two lower than you otherwise would, unless you are a true chile-head. The Tom Yum soup is some of the best I've ever had.
Also across the street and up a couple of businesses from ElCo is Kabob Korner. A Halal place. I had a fabulous chicken dish there. Also reasonably priced.
You probably know there's a Walgreen's a block or two up from El Cortez where you can get snacks, drinks and various sundries far cheaper than the gift shop.
Have fun!
Oh, the Plaza has a daily tourney. Don't know the requirements for entering; might be worth checking out. The Plaza also has a resident theater group now. I haven't seen them, but am very curious.
I didn't notice any particular changes from Fitzgerald's to the D. It may be a work in progress. Fitz (and now D) has always seemed more generous than most in awarding free play for points accumulated. Not a grand amount...but better than most. The LVA book also offers a nice 24 hour coupon worth looking at. I don't have the coupon book handy or I'd give you details.
Having a drink at Golden Nugget while watching the sharks swim in the tube that goes through the swimming pool is also a trip.
Again...have fun!

The requirements for entering the Plaza Daily tourney is to earn 25 points first and then go to the Slot Club booth for them to verify it and give you a voucher that you need to take to the Tourney area. It is to be done during restricted hours (10AM-7PM or maybe it's 10AM-8PM) if I'm remembering correctly).

If anyone out there has not joined Plaza or Las Vegas Club's Slot Club, there is a very good First-Time sign up bonus promotion going on.

You guys are the best. I'll be playing in the Plaza tourney for sure. thanks for the info! Love tourneys and promos of all kinds! I also love Thai food. If I'm up a lot, I may try it but otherwise I'll probably stick to the restaurants in the El Co since I'll have $100+ in comps when I combine the promo with with comps I already have. Love "free" meals + tips.

Tonyrob, thanks for the coupon link. I went to the site too and couldn't find it initially.

I am so excited!!!!!!!

Hey FFlowers,

Before I forget, do not be surprised if there may be some kind of restriction with using more than one kind of coupon per day (some casinos may have an issue with this and some may not). So do be aware of this and check to see if the casinos have any issue with this!

Thanks for the updated DT info. I also will be solo at the end of May. The new D for me. I don't like having to cross to El Co but do like the Flame, it's on my to do list for dinner.
Welcome to the other side of the tracks, fflowers. You're going to have a great time downtown, and you'll find the gambling and the comps to be a lot better than up on the Strip. We only stay downtown (only exception in the past few years was a couple of nights at Sam's Town), usually at MSS and the Plaza, sometimes Four Queens. Lots of good VP, I especially like MSS and the Cal (the scratch-off tickets for quads or better at MSS adds some EV) and at Four Queens (generous CB, progressive 10/7 DB, plenty of 9/6 JoB, nice marketing offers). You can't do better than the El Cortez for blackjack. We kind of like the double deck game there, the problem with single deck is that the tables are usually crowded and you'll only get two hands per deck.

Plenty of good promos all over downtown; probably the El Cortez and the Plaza are the best for various promos.

Lots of good food downtown. The clientele at the Cal is about 80% Hawaiian, Boyd runs air packages from Honolulu, so there's good mom-and-pop Hawaiian food at Aloha Specialties, and fantastic ice cream at Lappert's, a chain out of Hawaii. The Plaza has a really good Hawaiian place now, Island Sushi (hell of a good poke bar). At the Golden Gate, DuPar's is pretty good for diner food; at Four Queens, there's Magnolia's for cheap prime rib and coffee shop food (plenty of BOGOs out there). I really like the food at the El Cortez; Roberta's (yeah, it's The Flame now) is terrific, good walleye pike, good steaks, great king crab. Across the street, the Kebab Korner has been mentioned, and is very good, so is the little dumpy pizza place next to it (Uncle Joe's, I think). The Thai place across the street is new, haven't been there. Skip Mamita's, they have forgettable Mexican and Cuban food. Another good place for Thai and Chinese food, though, is Thai Vegas, off Fremont on 4th Street.

Then, you have some cool places a short bus ride away, like the coffee shop at Jerry's Nugget, in North Las Vegas, or Dona Maria's Tamales (good Mexican food) down off of Charleston.

Guess you can tell that I'm a bit food-focused.

Anyway, glad you're going to make it downtown, have a wonderful time, can't wait to hear how you do!
Jon,
Thanks for all of the tips! Will check out a few of those places for dinner. Will also try the cafe at Jerry's Nugget. I visited JN a few trips ago and was pleasantly surprised though I never ate there. They've got a bunch of neat specials going on now and I read on the ACG website that Mondays are "ladies days" including 5x points and a $5 MP coupon.
Jerry's Nugget is a fun place, very friendly locals, good DD blackjack.

Try the slow-roasted prime rib, it's reportedly famous and pretty popular, and very good. The baked goods are a specialty, although we didn't get to them last time.

You don't see a lot of heavy CET players who go to Jerry's Nugget, very cool.
Magnolias also has a prettygood steak and eggs breakfast.
