Bronco,
Your story disappoints me, as I can (somewhat) relate. My wife, brother-in-law and I were in DTG on or about Christmas, 2014 and the homeless were EVERYWHERE throughout the casino. Within the bank of video poker the three of us were at, there were no less than 5 homeless people who came and sat at/around the area of machines we were at and mumbled to themselves. Each time, security would come by and escort them out of the casino, but we jokingly referred to DTG as the "Downtown Grand Casino & Bus Stop". I mean, it was unreal. It's extremely unfortunate how lax it's apparently become in the two years since we last played there. At least when we were there, the homeless folks kept to themselves and did attempt to engage (or threaten). But they're already struggling, they might as well be a mile off Fremont, due to their location...to not have better security so as to make their patrons feel safe...a basic tenet of any facility...woof, they're failing...hard. Which is really too bad. I've stayed one night in their hotel and was quite impressed by it. But it's a sad statement that people use your hotel to sleep and go gamble elsewhere. I hope they can turn that ship around, I really want to see them succeed!

BEWARE! On our last visit to the Downtown Grand, me and my wife sat down at the bar to play .50 and 1.00 DDB video poker. We were having a pleasant time enjoying the band that was playing behind us. About an hour into our visit, a scarey looking young man sat down around the corner next to me. He wasn't gambling or drinking. He kept wanting to engage me in conversation about the upcoming presidential election among other things. I've been to Vegas 50+ times and have learned to ignore these types as best as possible. He wouldn't quit. I sternly told him that me and my wife were on vacation and had no opinions to discuss with him He was obviously high and stared at me and my wife with his glassed over eyes for about 10 minutes then said "do you know what you need?" I ignored him and he said "A CAP IN YOUR ASS!" loudly. We were next to the waitress station where a cocktail waitress was standing. She looked at me and said " do you want me to call security?" I said hell yes! The bartender scurried to the other side of the bar (probably to hide). A minute or two later a security man arrived (looked like he was about 17) and started questioning the individual. After what seemed like 5 or 10 minutes of them talking like old friends, I realized that he wasn't going to do anything. I told the wife to cash out and we proceeded to the security podium where 3 or 4 guards were shooting the breeze and playing with their cell phones. I ask to speak with head of security. Finally after further insistence they summoned him. I informed him of the situation and handed him our players cards and said that we would never be back. He apologized all over himself and asked where the individual was. I pointed him out and he said that they would take care of it. I said "too late" as we made our way to the cashier's cage. As we left, we saw 2 guards escorting him out of the casino. If they were smart enough to look up our play, they may be able to make changes to survive but I doubt it. Regardless we will never step foot inside again!
