Switching to Golden Nugget over The D

I'm just here to soak up any GN info. I'll be staying at the GN in July after not having actually stayed there in a few years. So any hints or tips are appreciated. I played enough to swing some comped rooms, but I have not yet pinned down a room type.

In order from nicest on down.

1.  Spa Tower.  Two story 1BR suites.  Very nice.  Maybe 1100 sq feet??  I've stayed in this tower many times, but the last time was 2020, and the first time in about 2003.  They have always been in good condition.

2.  Rush Tower.  Very nice, various types of rooms and junior suites.  I've stayed in this tower only twice, and it's been a while.  PJ stayed there since me and commented on this tower still being very nice.

3.  Gold Tower.  Fine, but nothing special.  They do have some older and interesting small suites....the size of two standard rooms, if I recall correctly.  I've stayed in this tower many times, but not for years so I can't attest to their current condition.

4.  Carson Tower.  Nothing wrong with these rooms, but far from special.  Certainly clean, but a little boring and dated.  I've stayed in this tower many times, but not lately.  I did visit a friend in one of these rooms three years ago, and my description above still holds.

If you're going to stay in the Rush Tower, get a room facing the Strip.  Very noisy if facing FSE.

I'll repeat what I said earlier, while generally true, on nights that the Downtown Events Center (check the schedule) has a concert (many of them are many bands or DJ's and run till 2 or 3am), these rooms can be very noisy too.   And I assure you that side on those nights is much noisier than the facing FSE side.   You have to check the schedule.

We were there this past March and found many improvments in the Golden Nugget. What I have found over the years is that the most quiet rooms are in the Gold Tower facing the pool. The opposite side you will be facing the Concerts as other people have said are extemely loud. Also the further up you are, the more you are away from the noise.

Rush tower is nice but it is hard to find a quiet area.

It amazes me that the downtown hotels have the balls to charge more than $3 a night for those rooms that get blasted by the FSE every night. How many people have paid the freight only to find that it's impossible to get a decent night's sleep? Fabulous fucking Las Vegas!

My suspicion is that they knew this would be the case, but they thought that the guests blasted out of bed would have no option but to go back downstairs and play the slots some more.

The solution is to gamble until 2am, then sleep peacefully as long as you like.

And if you get tired before then? After all, you've paid for your room. Why shouldn't it be possible to sleep in it whenever you wish?

Few people fail to realize that most of the current downtown casinos were built long before the Fremont Experience was developed. A rational response from the casinos would be to offer rooms that are affected by the FSE noise at a cheaper rate than the rooms that are not affected by the FSE noise - but that makes too much sense for the bean counters to grasp, and as a result, that is why common sense will not be considered and people will have to "know beforehand" to ask for a room away from the FSE noise when reserving/checking in. All of the bitching and moaning demonstrated here by some of the chronic complainers who post here will not change this reality.

But wait!  Isn't someone who chronically complains about the "chronic complainers" then a chronic complainer as well?  Think about it!  Oops! ;-)
