Vegas Smells..

Have you ever smelled something that reminds you of a time or place?
For Christmas my wife got a bottle of "Gud" vanilla flame lotion, (its a new line from Burts Bees).

If you get the chance, smell it and see if it doesnt remind you of the El Cortez.. (No, not smoke, cheap liquior and oxygen tanks) It has that distinct sweet vanilla/pina colada smell that hits when you first walk thru the casino doors.

Heres a link to the bottle.. if you see it, take a wiff and see if Im right.. or maybe I just spend too much time in Vegas..

Hey Marko,

Casino smells (scents) are not something completely new. There actually is more than one LVA QOD about the subject (most recently dealt with on April 17, 2011) and, if I'm remembering correctly, there also is a LVA Poll about it as well!

And so these scents tend to be used as a tactic by the casinos to get us to have a (hopefully for them) good experience (and/or a warm and fuzzy feeling about them) and make us want to return there.

St. Ives has an Oatmeal and Shea Butter bodywash that smells like the Mirage.

Yes, I am a man and I use bodywash instead of bar soap. Wanna make sumthin' out of it?

I once made a referance to the fragrence in the ElCortez as being labeled " An Evening in Paris "

This is where they are created -

Any time I smell beer, it reminds me of Main Street Station.
Tom, to my knowledge they haven't created a beer-scented body wash, but I suppose you could bathe in Pale Ale to remind you of MSS. Lol

Only the El smells like the El.

Downtown casino scents are a different ballgame than Strip casino scents. Venetian, Bellagio, etc., have their signature fragrances. For lots of the downtown properties, I think it has more to do with the cleaning products they use. The bathrooms at MSS had a very distinctive scent for a few years, and every so often I'd run into a public restroom here in Florida with the same odor, and I would get a major MSS flashback (visions of the Berlin Wall and everything). I once stayed in a cheap motel and the soap smelled just like the El Cortez, hit me like a ton of bricks. Wish I could bottle those things.

Smell is one of my favorite senses.
Last summer we were landscaping the back yard and went to Home Depot to look for flowers. I noticed a fragrance that seemed slightly familiar, but was overpowering in its attraction to me. I sniffed around the flower section until I found them, and convinced my wife that we had to have several of them immediately. My wife was a bit taken aback, because I'm not usually a big flower guy.

So anyway we get them home, and as I'm planting them (oriental Orchids) it hit me.....they smell like the Venetian.
