Visiting Las Vegas

Nobody wants a police state where anything and everything can be mandated at the whim of any powerful person, but the situation of pandemic is a different story, as in PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS.  Hell, Boilerman, it has already been proven what happens when everything opens up and people haven't taken the vaccine.  Stupid, stupid, stupid to reject this life saving measure.  Your mom probably took you for your baby shots, without YOUR permission of course.  Back in our day it was an absolute to protect your children by getting them appropriate medical care including vaccines at the recommended months of age.  The moms didn't like to see their babies cry with the shots but they knew it was the right thing.  All of a sudden it became a political football...such crap.  Nobody likes a shot in the arm, though they'll suck street drugs (and talk about unregulated!) into their lungs and veins for their own selfish desire...a 15 minute high.  Makes no sense.

I WANT mandated Covid-19 vaccination!!!!!!!!!!!!

Candy, I support making vaccinations mandatory for anyone wishing to do x, y, or z, such as attending school, traveling, going to a sporting event or concert, working in any environment where there is contact with others, etc....the exact restrictions would be up to individual jurisdictions. I think if we make life difficult/miserable enough for the no-vaxxers, they'll eventually drop their silly stance and get their shots, like responsible adults.

Refresh my memory. HOW and WHY did anti-masking and anti-vaccination become the mantra of the Republican party? Is it simply because they were all on their knees before Trump as he lied and spouted nonsense about the pandemic?

You really have to marvel at the awesome power Trump has over his love-slaves, that they are literally willing to die for him. And thousands have!

I suspect that it's unconstitutional to mandate the vaccine.

I largely agree with your position.

The governor of Florida does not.   Cruise lines want to exclusively allow vaccinated people to take part in their services...but FLorida is saying no way.   And that's every bit as much intrusive into Free Enterprise, isn't it?

In my opinion, airlines should institute mandated vaccines - epecially since they happily took billions of tax dollars during the pandemic to stay afloat.   That would go a long way to getting unvaccinated people motivated to get the shot.   Likely they are reluctant.   Simply demanding passengers wear masks resulted in a record number of beligerant incidents aboard planes regarding passengers upset about their infringed freedom.   So you can only guess what would happen if they mandated the vaccine.

Based on what part of the Constitution? Also, keep in mind that personal freedumbs can be sharply curtailed during times of emergency, for the common good. There's ample precedent for that. We're certainly in the midst of a national health emergency right now.

Agree that the genie having exited the bottle spells death to the idea of a national vaccine mandate.   Earlier I used the phrase "political football" though in truth I can't explain it other than we are in a generation of 'you can't tell me what to do.'  If you are reading what I'm reading just in the last days, it is being recognized that much published in popular press and TV news (NYT and CNN for a couple) has fueled the 'vaccine is a hoax or at least unnecessary' mentality; the error of that position is being acknowledged (and retractions being made, but how long does it take to change a mind about something?).

I suspect that back in 1918 if the influenza vaccine had been available more of the population would have gladly taken it, because the President, Woodrow Wilson, said not one word to the public about the pandemic that was killing zillions.  Not that he cared about the pandemic, he was concerned with other issues, many related to his re-election.  Was advised about the pandemic but didn't want to detract from other messages (no TV or Internet, of course), primarily that would impact his re-election chances.  He was ill but didn't let that info out.  Stroke is documented; it is thought influenza probably hastened his death after the stroke.

How ironic...no cure or preventative vaccine for that 1918 pandemic; a few state governors recognized it and urged their constituents to avoid gathering.   There is a story about that...a good book actually about the 1918 pandemic...includes a tale of two big cities, one that gathered en mass at a huge war bond rally or something, while the other's governor warned what was happening and the rally was cancelled.  The death toll followed as expected, high where the big gathering was done, not in the other city.  Almost its own scientific experiment regarding the benefit of distancing.

IMHO I tend to agree with PJ Stroh that all the airlines should 100% mandate anyone who wishes to fly on their aircraft has to prove they have been vaccinated. Then as an "incentive" allow the passengers to not have to wear a mask while on the plane. That would eliminate the bulls**t that occurs as a regular occurence on flights. All they have to say is if you are not vaccinated then feel free to fly on "Freedom Airlines".

However I do not believe airlines would have the ba**s to make the right decision so we will be left with unvaccinated people dying due to following bad advice and the vaccinated ones suffering minor issues. But lets be honest most of the non-vaccers are Trump supporters or Repblicans who have been fed and believe the lies. They conveniently seem to forget the fact that Trump got vaccinated (so why should he worry)

I got the shot(s)as soon as they were available to me.

I agree that we are in a generation of "you can't tell me what to do" and at the same time a generation of "I think it's my place to tell you what to do."

I think it's more along the lines of, "The bombs are falling and you need to turn out the lights and get in the bomb shelter, and if you refuse, you'll be arrested, you dumb wankers."

I'm SO sick of hearing about people's freedumb during a national emergency.

Cutting to the chase, it sounds like we need martial law to be declared to end this Covid debate (and the crisis)

I know how to read, consider myself logical, and am 100% Pro-Vaccine.  I get the flu shot every year and when I leave the country I get EVERY possible vaccine that I MIGHT need, Hep A, Hep B, rabies, etc. I believe that people who don't have legitimate medical or religious reasons should get the vaccination.   This is my opinion.

That said,  I also believe that under "normal" conditions, everyone has the RIGHT TO DECIDE what to do with their own bodies, be it to NOT GET THE VACCINE or to decide to GET AN ABORTION.  While we all have opinions, I can't draw subjective lines based what "I think should be done" whether or not I agree with the intent.  Too slippery a slope.  A right is a right, unless there is martial law declared, which it hasn't been.

In the same vein, (pun intended) if someone decides not to get the vaccination, as a means of enticement, can / should the government then say that if they then get Covid (a foreseeable result of their decision) that NO public funds will be expended for their care or rehabilitation?  It might make some people think twice, definitely would save some taxpayer money and in the long term, could improve the quality of the gene pool.  Very callous, but realistic.

I have a lot more questions than answers.

May want to move this to the "kitchen Sink" forum, this is very removed from "Downtown Hotels" .
