What are your regular downtown stops

We are downtown regulars, almost always staying at MSS. First the two must sees that are depressing - the empty back corner of Binions - hard to believe the WSOP was actually started here! and second a walk through the Las Vegas Club. I don't think there's a more depressing place in all of LV. I actually stayed there a few times, right after the N tower was finally completed. At MSS the Triple 7 is our fav. brewpub in town, porter, pale ale and rotating IPA are all outstanding. Their garlic fries are not for the faint of heart, and their pizza isn't bad either. The Berlin wall in the john is also a regular stop, not to mention the vintage artwork in the hallway leading to the restrooms. At the Cal, we try to have at least one meal at the Redwood B&G, though the Porterhouse special is no longer cheap. It's an intimate reasonably priced gourmet room. Fremont seafood buffet is still a draw, though it has lots more competition than it used to have. We try to always use our coupon at the Flame at Elco, partly just to check out the other diners and the weird travelogues on the monitors. At the D, we alwasy go through a roll of quarters on the Sigma Derby. At 4q we try to play some 10-7DB if the progressive is up a little bit, though the machines are getting old and in need of repair. Higest return VP is town is back at MSS - the 10-7 DB with the scratch-off cards yield about 102% by my calcs. There is basically nothing to see or do at GG, Plaza or GN, so they are not even on our radar. (I refuse to wait in line to be seated just to get a shrimp cocktail.)

Finally, the light shows are still a favorite, especially if the weather is nice. My favorite is still one of the originals with the space ship taking off and landing in another world which just happens to be Las Vegas.
Recent favorites are the Queen tribute and American Pie. We definitely do not like the clutter of all the stands and now the zip line, all of which just interfere with the light show enjoyment.

We'll be back in 4 weeks.

Great list, roycpa, I agree with and share pretty much every single one of those.
The usuals in Las Vegas are:

Golden Nugget Pool and Slide
Martinis at El Cortez while watching the Elvis show
Oxygen Bar on Fremont - must do on day 3
Magnolia's at 4Queens - tuna melt with onion rings!
Bloody Mary's at Main Street Boar Bar - then Brunch at the buffet
Freeplay Run all over Downtown
An hour at the $.25 Horse Race Derby at the D
A Craps lesson at the GN -- and still can't get the hang of the darn game.....

Craps can be confusing at first! Soooo many ways to bet.
I'll keep it simple,here.
The EASY bets are the sucker bets: the ONE roll bets.
Just wait for a new shooter and place your wager on the pass line,The very next roll will be a POINT or CRAPS or a winner!.
First roll: 2,3 or 12 loses. 7 or 11 wins. other numbers are the POINT.
The shooter must roll the POINT B-4 a 7 for your pass line bet to win.
It's that simple.
Watch and learn and the "stick man" can offer help, too!
They will teach you what "free odds" are. (Recommended).

Have some fun!

If you haven't seen John Brooks at the El Cortez- Elvis show- please do! He is wonderful!
Of course Mermaids-I love that place for drinks!
After I get checked in, I start at one end of Fremont and go into every place " Hotel/Casino " and see whats new,
what's changed, what's the same, even if it was a short time since a prior visit. I recall years ago a buddy who went
with me to Vegas, maybe 20 years ago, then once again about 5 years later. About 10 years ago I asked him to
join me in Vegas, he said " No, I've been there twice and it's the same " I can definatly tell you that I see something
different every time on my 1st day routine of hitting them all Downtown just to see exactly what changed and what hasn't.

My last visit was in 2006 and yes,it's NEVER the same place:It's always changing.
Think of the casinos that are there now,not 8 years ago.
The D,The Grand come to mind. No Fitz or Lady Luck.
Dancing BJ dealers?
New bars,places to eat.
Zip line(Still down?)
I like beef jerky.
Been 20 years since I was in Reno. Why go there?

JUST got back. April 4th.

24th floor Binion's steak house! EXCELLENT!
Magnolia's: Get the Hand Crafted root beer with your meal.

Heart Attack Grill- bring an appetite!
If you cannot finish all of it you get a spanking!
NO SMOKING inside.

My experience:

4 Queens free pull:won an ace w/first BJ card.
Wallgreen's was a ZOO.15 people in line.
Got my Ethyl M's at the air port.$18 w/liquer.

Avoid the Plaza-terrible service.
The Fremont IS the smokiest casino.Best cocktail service,however.4Q is good.
The D was too loud.
See the BJ dealers at the GG: Mass cleavage,$2.49 shrimp cocktail.
Most BJ downtown is 3 for 2 BJ's. Lot's of $5 tables.

I'll go again in October, depending on my comps.

If you miss Pizza Rock across from Lady Luck, er, Downtown Grand, you're really screwing yourself.
We tried the Pizza Rock during our downtown visit this last week. But, the music and additional noise were too loud. We were hoping to be able to have a conversation. Too bad, because the menu looked interesting.
