Where To: GG or MSS?

Im gonna go for it and see if I can do a 30 hour trip to Vegas next month..

Im a creature of habit and usually stay at the GG. They have always been very generous with comps and dealing with them is very easy. (chalk that up to it being a smaller property?)

However, I have been getting mailers from Main Street Station offering free rooms and food.

I've never been bothered by the noise at the GG and I don't spend much time in the room, so the size isn't an issue. But it would be nice to try something new. Outside of the food, is MSS worth checking out for a few nights?

Yes.

If you play video poker, MSS is light-years better than GG.

Yes, as the previous poster says, MSS has much better Video Poker than GG (check out VPFree2.com for more information. Plus make sure that you take advantage of the Main Street Station promotion for the Scratch Card that you get with each four of a kind and higher (this also works for getting a Straight Flush and Royal Flush).

I think that they also might still have a daily Slot Tournament and so check that out if you're interested as well!

imho mss is a step up from the gg-----wouldn't hesitate to give it a try,you may be pleasantly surprised---

Think Ill try it out.
The rooms look nice and if desperate, I can relax in the California pool.
Marko - how are the rooms at GG? I need one night July 2 before I check into my timeshare for a week. My friend and I want to stay downtown. The rooms look really nice online...but I've been burned by pics before. Do you know if/when renovated?
I have stayed at the GG a few times. renovated a few years ago, it is a very old property, and this really shows once inside the rooms. the rooms are small, bathroom is tiny and not the cleanest. you WILL hear the fremont street noise. in the shower, finding the right balance between hot and cold is tricky. the convenient location can't be beat. this is not a fancy crash pad to be sure. don't expect too much and you will be fine. for the budget price, or comped, I'd stay there again. this is coming from a budget Vegas traveler though. usually in Vegas, I am alone, so I just need a place to shower and lay down. I don't spend much time in the hotel room regardless of how nice it is or isn't. the MSS or CAL would be a little more peaceful, but beware, they do not have room darkening curtains.

I love GG. I agree with everything stated above. But you have to be prepared for the GG.

The rooms are not big, as a matter of fact, they are tiny. However, if you are someone that just needs a spot to rest and shower, this is it. The renovation was long overdue and they did a good job with the updates. The bathrooms are small and nothing fancy. FYI - if you are 2 in a room and you dont want to hear whats going on in the bathroom, you will need to spend some time in the casino. You can ask for a room facing Main Street if you think the FSE noise will be an issue (its never bothered me, mainly because I dont go to bed till long after the shows are over).
You may want to check in on the the Suites/Penthouse. Ive never actually seen it, but if you need the room and have the cash, is a great option.

The other element about GG I love is the size/location. You can leave your room and be at a table in 3 mins. The cocktail service is swift, DuPars has a GREAT breakfast and since they are a smaller property, comps are easy to get. Finally, if you are not feeling it, you can leave your table/slot and be at another spot in 5 mins.

I would recommend GG and if you don't like it, then you've only lost 1 night.

If you go, let us know how it was
