Where to place a bet downtown?

I'm arriving on a Sunday am (downtown), and want to place a football bet for a late afternoon's game.
Where is the best place?

Also, can I just place a bet for a team to "win" ??
Or how do you handle the odds?
The Golden Nugget has a nice sportsbook. Fitzgerald's has a very small one upstairs. There are others scattered around.

For your team to win, you want to make a bet "on the money line." If your team is favored, Vegas will set the odds so that you will have to put up more than even money to place the bet. For example, if your team is favored by 3 points, Vegas will set the "money line" around -140, meaning you have to put up $14 to win $10. Conversely, if your team is a 3 point underdog, they will set the odds +130 or so, meaning if you bet $10, they will pay you $13.

I know also that Four Queens and Golden Gate has a very small sportsbook, Plaza may have one once the Hotel/Casino gets to be completely functioning (but check into that) and I know that El Cortez has a Sportsbook. And Binion's might have one too!

But I really would encourage you to shop around (if possible) because the lines could differ from place to place!

The California has a sports book (upstairs) and I think Fremont does as well. If you're betting $10 or $20, the returns probably won't vary by more than a buck or two between all the places. If you're betting in the hundreds or thousands, it's definitely worth your while to shop around for the best odds.

The Fremont Sports book is to the right just before the men's bathroom and the buffet entrance.
The Fremont and the California are owned by the same people. Their odds will be the same so just go to whichever is the closest for you.
I have found that the people working at the Fitz sports book to be friendly and helpful.
Yah, I'm only looking for a $50 win bet on the Packers on 10/9.
Take the packers and the total to go over for the game.
50/130=180

Which means 50 wins you 130 for a total of 180
Downtown is the best place to shop for lines. There are 5 different 'books' within a quick walk:

Lucky's - Fitz, Plaza
South Point - El Cortez
Cal Neva - Four Queens, Binions
Boyd - Fremont, Cal, MSS
Golden Nugget - GN

Not sure if the GG has a book...they used to and it was Leroys...think they may have closed, but not sure.

Getting that extra half-point in football or laying less juice on the ML can make a big difference!!

I am the worst sports better for two reasons

#1 I just havent studied "how to" do this kind of betting and
#2 I always bet with my heart on Boston teams. luckly in the recent history that was a pretty good bet

With that said, I stayed at the 4 queens last April and wanted to make sports bets on The Boston Bruins and Red Sox. I walked up to the counter (no one else in line) at the cal-nev sports book, which is about the size of your living room with 3 flat screens to watch games and a couple of tables to sit at. The lady at the counter explained 'everything' to me in laymens terms with a smile.
I asked all of the stupid questions like 'if I bet $25 on the red sox to win straight up what would I get (she would answer), then I would say, what if I bet $25 on the red sox win by 2 runs (she would answer).
I have found every sports book to be like this including the big ones "UNLESS" they have a huge line behind you.
Dont be afraid, just walk up and ask questions. They close at 9PM you can pick your winnings up at the cashiers cage 'if' the win was posted by that time, otherwise you have to wait until the next day

Remember at the end of pre season a lot of teams dont play there best guys (Patriots wont play Tom Brady the last game), so Aaron Rogers might also be riding the bench and the packers might not win without him

Good luck weggie
