Wi-Fi availability downtown

Someplace on the LVA site I read that there is free WiFi available within one mile of the Fremont Street Experience. I'm staying at MSS so if this is true I should be able to hook up to this free Wifi instead of paying them $10 a day to use their wireless? Has anybody ever used this free wifi downtown?
I always see the Fremont WIFI pop up on my WIFI networks when I'm down there....but most hotels now give you "free" wifi - which is to say it is included with the mandatory (not free) resort fee. I take it MSS does not do this?

The downtown Boyd Gaming properties don't have a resort fee. Internet is something like $10-12 per day if you want it.

I don't think the free downtown wifi is a substitute for a decent hotel connection. The free service is slow and weak relative to what most of us are used to, and I don't think it penetrates hotel walls very well.

I wouldn't count on it.

I tried logging on to the free wifi downtown in early March 2016 to no avail. Albeit I didn't try hard because I had my own wifi to fall back on. I forgot the name of the signal but it was something like "free Las Vegas dot net."
