Your thoughts on Fitzgerald’s please

My sister wants to stay there as our Downtown place on the next trip. I walked through the casino one time, but it was a long time ago. I don’t even remember my impression. Tell me what you think about the place.

We stayed at the Fitz last June-3 nights about $30 a night with free breakfast in the Courtyard Grill. Our room was a decent size, we could see Fremont Street from our window. The casino and hotel are old, but we had no complaints- room was clean, staff was helpful and accommodating. The food was good, the staff was a bit slow. The pool is located out the door near the bell desk, but again we were happy. Good size pool and jacuzzi, gated with room key entrance, although the website had specific hours, security let us go in at all hours. Main casino floor always a little crowded for the size, but we gambled alot on the second floor and we were comfortable. For us it was a good homebase for exploring Fremont-added plus they have a Krispy Kreme in house opens at 6am! One thing-elevators are a bit slow. We were thinking of staying there again this summer-BUT- the Fitz has been bought by the owners of the Golden Gate. Of what I've heard there will be a name change and remodeling going on. So I don't know how its going to be, inconvenient? noisy? price changes? I don't know. Anyway- i hope this helped a bit.
It does help, binkiebink. Thank you for the info.

Fitz has very serviceable and somewhat dated rooms. If you're expecting fancy, you'll be disappointed. If you paid next to nothing, and just want a place to sleep, you'll be very happy. Entrance to self parking garage is very steep, if that bothers you. You can always use valet. Very convenient for all the downtown area. Enjoy!!!

Thanks, Roy. Let’s see, slow elevators and slightly outdated rooms. That sounds like Fitzgerald’s Reno. We used to stay there often and we miss it. Fitzgerald’s LV doesn’t sound bad.
We love the Fitz and stay there regularly - last Nov. 2011, next late Feb 2012. Elevators are no longer slow, upgraded a few years ago. Parking garage true giggles. Rooms are outdated but clean and decent size, hot water with powerful shower heads. Friendly although at times slow service. Good food, not gourmet, not outrageously priced. Unpretentious, great quality, central locale and the best live and video Keno in town!!!
Enjoy
I went into the Casino and my allergies kicked in within minutes - had to leave.
Don't know anything about the place - was not able to stay long enough to really check it out.
I believe the Fitz will be refreshening the rooms and casino throughout 2012. I love the casino...downtown has a reputation for loose slots and good video poker - but not all downtown places fit that bill. Fitzgeralds does.

The one problem I have with Fitzgeralds is the eateries. I like to play there but there aren't any good places to spend your food comps (although I have not tried their steakhouse since they renamed it). Now that GOlden Gate has bought the property maybe that will improve or slot club member will be able to spend Fitz Points at Golden Gate eateries. That would be nice.
I totally agree with pjstroh, give me somewhere to eat Fitz, please! I am hoping the Fitz is going to get a "Plaza" like update.
We stay at the Fitz all the time and will be staying there again Jan 30,2012 to Feb 3- nothing fancy but they make us we feel like our business is appreciated. I am a female in my 60s and feel safe on the premises even when I am by myself in the wee hours of the morning. Rooms are not fancy but they are clean - we have probably stayed there 6 + times in the last 2 years and have never encountered any problems.
