AC - after the storm

Has anybody been?
yes----all properties open but sparsely attended----stayed at resorts----have been advised they are not getting the crowds at all casinos, bus traffic customers is off 60% from new york and north jersey-----also customers are not driving in their own cars from those areas, have storm related problems of their own and/or hard to get gas for the trip---

places like the revel and atlantic are particulary hard hit with some layoffs of workers because of the lack of customers---word is these 2 places may not make it and be forced to sell or file for bankruptcy in the coming year----
what is the Boardwalk like?
the boardwalk in front of the casinos is fine at least what i could see outside resorts looking north and south a few hundred yards-----pictures one see on the tv news of damaged boardwalk is that portion that runs along the inlet which was scheduled for demolition and/or repacement---

Went last Saturday - Monday. Stayed at Ballys. Per one of the maintenance guys, the hotel suffered minimum damage, a few windows had blown out during the storm but were repaired, the front sign was damaged. Sammys beach bar was slightly in disaray, but is closed until next summer anyway. Piles of timbers/driftwood/ were nearby. Quite a few bottles in this mess, reminded me of opening scenes to Boardwalk Empire. Some of the walkways from the boardwalk to the beach, on the beach side, the hand rails were buried in the sand. The beach appeared to be extended way out to the ocean from where it normally had been the last few years, or at least from before they did the beach reclamation project years ago. There may have been a few more restauraunts closed at Ballys than normal, the Diamond lounge was closed on Monday. The bathroom's towards the boardwalk, south side of the casino were locked most of our stay due to "reduced staff", and the pool was drained. The crowd was pretty sparse on Saturday night, but Sunday seemed busier. Ballys was taking care of some of their employees whose homes were destroyed, by allowing them to stay in the hotel through the 16th, and allowing them comped food. As posted earlier, the boardwalk is OK until you get past Revel, that I heard was a ghost town last weekend.
I have photos of the boardwalk along the inlet that were taken about 3 weeks before the storm. The captain of the dolphin watching cruise mentioned that area of the boardwalk was in disrepair because there was no money to fix it. However, the reason I took the photo was to show the street and the Atlantic Ocean where my grandparents and mom lived close to 75 years ago. Story is . . . my grandmother became so pissed at relatives coming for extended visits, she threw a package or plate of ground beef at her sister.
Hey Now!
we're going for Turkey Weekend..
usual TR w/photos to follow..

Revel will be there for many years to come, but it will almost certainly go through a bankruptcy or reorganization within the next two or three years. That's fairly common for casinos these days. The Trump casinos have gone through reorganization at least twice, and Caesars is on course for reorganization in 2015.

........ but I believe the ultimate re-org in the future is to make them all condos.
