Black Hawk, CO?

Well, this isn't east of the Mississippi, but it ain't Vegas, so I guess I'll post it here. We're going to be in Denver in about a week, and may be stopping in Black Hawk for an afternoon. Looking at the ACG, it looks like they have 15 casinos (plus another 6 in Central City, next town over), a lot of them tiny (1000 sq ft or so). Some reasonable VP from what I can find on vpFree2 (not every casino has been scouted, though). Anyone been out there? Any suggestions? Any decent blackjack?

Thanks, and I'll post something when we get back.
I was there about 5 years ago. Loved it. The casinos are along one street. You just mosey on down the street stopping in at different casinos and checking out the town. Then you drive about a mile to Central City and walk down their main street and stop at their casinos. Central City is on a hill so you're walking uphill or downhill. Central City also has a lot fewer and smaller casinos…not as much to see. Black Hawk is more level. Only a few large casinos, many small casinos. But spending a day or two is a lot of fun. I stayed in Denver (husband at a convention) in the Fall and did the 45 minute drive out to Black Hawk. The foliage was magnificent! What a spectacular drive.

Sounds great, Stu, we'll probably do it. Do you remember any particular casino that you liked? Food? Blackjack?

Thanks for the info!
As a local, I am up in Blackhawk at least 2x a month.

Blackhawk has most of the "corporate" casinos.
Try Monarch (old Riveria), Isle Of Capri/Lady Luck, Mardi Gras, and Ameristar.

MY fav is Mardi Gras for VP and double deck pitch BJ.

Best buffet IMO, is at Ameristar.
They are the tightest on slots/VP though.

Very helpful, thanks, kiddo!
Get up to Blackhawk/Central City once a month or so. The Ameristar is as nice as any large Las Vegas casino.
The rooms there are outstanding with a roof top pool. Check it out as you can go up there to see it with out being a hotel guest. Check out Jonny Z's in Central City. Central City is a lot like the days when it was a gold mining town. Lots of history in both towns. I am sure you will enjoy yourself in both towns. Let us know what you think when you get back from your trip. All the larger casinos have buffets with Ameristar, Monarch and the Lodge being the best. If you have a few drinks watch yourself driving back down as there is quite a police present and the mountain roads are curvy. There are bus shuttles that run from all over Denver. Call the casinos for info and most of them refund half of the cost of the trip. Mondays-Wednesdays are senior days at various casinos with good discounts. Get a players card where you play as most give some type of free play and some free meals.
