We decided to do a short casino trip this weekend. Linda (wife), Glen and Jennifer (friends) and I drove down to Immokalee, FL, a small town on the northern fringes of the Everglades, in the middle of nowhere. There's a decent Seminole Indian casino down there, not huge but some okay VP.
It was a little more than two hours to drive down from St. Petersburg, easy trip. We went straight to the casino and had lunch at their surprisingly good Jewish deli; I had some adequate matzo ball soup and a good corned beef sandwich.

We played for most of the afternoon, but none of us did all that well. I stuck to VP, mostly dollar 9/6 JoB (they used to have it for quarters or more, now just for dollars or more), also some quarter Illinois deuces. Didn't get a break at all, lost, lost and lost. Only had one quad, quad aces, but not on DDB, not on DB, not even on JoB, but on the deuces machine, for a big $5. Also got dealt a wild royal with one deuce, it's always tempting to throw the deuce but not the right move, so I decided to be satisfied with what I had, rather than taking the 1 in 47 shot.

Glen and Jen played mostly slots and were up and down; same for Linda, who played a little of each. Blackjack was $10 minimum out of a CSM, H17, DAS; six-deck shoe games with crappy penetration started at $25. Didn't bother.
We left the casino in the late afternoon, checked in to the Immokalee Inn, which is a very basic motel, but clean and with a very nice and accommodating owner.

Smallest cake of soap ever, though:

Got settled in and went out to dinner. Lots of good choices for Mexican food in Immokalee, the motel owner recommended Mi Ranchito, which isn't much to look at, but the food was very good, as was the service.

I had an excellent sopa de tortilla and bistec tampiqueño.

Linda had chilis rellenos, Glen had a burrito and Jen had some fajitas. Excellent all around. Back to the hotel, smoked some cigars (Tatuaje Havana VI) and played some euchre; the men beat the ladies, two games to one, but it was plenty close.
Back on the road Sunday morning, stopped at the Ortiz flea market (east of Ft. Myers) on the way home (Glen and Jen do a lot of flea market stuff), got some pupusas and tamales, and got home by 2pm. Nice little weekend getaway, not for everybody, but plenty of fun. Thanks for reading!
