could this be the first Immokalee trip report ever?

We decided to do a short casino trip this weekend. Linda (wife), Glen and Jennifer (friends) and I drove down to Immokalee, FL, a small town on the northern fringes of the Everglades, in the middle of nowhere. There's a decent Seminole Indian casino down there, not huge but some okay VP.

It was a little more than two hours to drive down from St. Petersburg, easy trip. We went straight to the casino and had lunch at their surprisingly good Jewish deli; I had some adequate matzo ball soup and a good corned beef sandwich.

We played for most of the afternoon, but none of us did all that well. I stuck to VP, mostly dollar 9/6 JoB (they used to have it for quarters or more, now just for dollars or more), also some quarter Illinois deuces. Didn't get a break at all, lost, lost and lost. Only had one quad, quad aces, but not on DDB, not on DB, not even on JoB, but on the deuces machine, for a big $5. Also got dealt a wild royal with one deuce, it's always tempting to throw the deuce but not the right move, so I decided to be satisfied with what I had, rather than taking the 1 in 47 shot.

Glen and Jen played mostly slots and were up and down; same for Linda, who played a little of each. Blackjack was $10 minimum out of a CSM, H17, DAS; six-deck shoe games with crappy penetration started at $25. Didn't bother.

We left the casino in the late afternoon, checked in to the Immokalee Inn, which is a very basic motel, but clean and with a very nice and accommodating owner.

Smallest cake of soap ever, though:

Got settled in and went out to dinner. Lots of good choices for Mexican food in Immokalee, the motel owner recommended Mi Ranchito, which isn't much to look at, but the food was very good, as was the service.

I had an excellent sopa de tortilla and bistec tampiqueño.

Linda had chilis rellenos, Glen had a burrito and Jen had some fajitas. Excellent all around. Back to the hotel, smoked some cigars (Tatuaje Havana VI) and played some euchre; the men beat the ladies, two games to one, but it was plenty close.

Back on the road Sunday morning, stopped at the Ortiz flea market (east of Ft. Myers) on the way home (Glen and Jen do a lot of flea market stuff), got some pupusas and tamales, and got home by 2pm. Nice little weekend getaway, not for everybody, but plenty of fun. Thanks for reading!
Yep that is probably a first for TR's. Do you prefer Immokalee over Tampa? Tampa is so much closer to you. My preference is Hollywood, Tampa, and Immokalee a very distant 3rd. Glad you had a good time.

Love to play euchre, are you from MI or OH originally.
Very interesting, glad you had a good time.
I hate a dealt Wild Royal!

The photo size comparison of the soap with a quarter...yes that is pretty small.
But...think of how much of the bar soap is tossed at the hotels?
I always leave mine in the soap dish, with every intention that I can still use it the next day, but mostly a new one is placed and the used one gone. Oh, well.
I've made reports on Trip Advisor, but figured it was too out of the way for here. Been there 3 times on shelling trips to Sanobel Island. The VP is marginal, but somehow I've won every time...last trip I left up $800. Been to Tampa, but we didn't care for the casino at all and have no plans to go back (although they are still direct mailing me with free slot play offers).

Thanks, guys. It was a hell of a small piece of soap.

No, not from the midwest, but Jennifer is from rural Ohio and Linda is from Pittsburgh, so there's some euchre in the blood.

Tampa Hard Rock is a lot closer for us, and I get over there every month or two. Bigger place, fairly decent buffet, but the comps have really dried up for us. No decent VP now, usually play 50c Illinois Deuces. Used to be 9/6 JoB for $2, then that disappeared, then they put in some $1, then they downgraded that to a $2500 RF. Immokalee was just to try something different; they used to have plenty of quarter JoB and BP, now it's all at the dollar level, still okay by me, but you can get hurt.

I do like Sanibel, been too long since we've been there.

Thanks for reading!
Thanks for the trip report. I enjoyed reading it. We have not visited any Florida casinos.
I haven't been to Tampa in a while thanks for the info on downgraded VP.

I love euchre. FYI it became really popular with the folks working the "line" in Detroit. They had a limited time to play at lunch and Pinochle was to long. MI and OH folks I find are HUGE card players. It seems no one in FL knows this game.
If you're ever over this way, look us up, we'll do some euchring!
Nice report. Bare bones room AND soap! No crocodile pics?? I figured they would be all over the place down there. I heard many years ago that the Plaza recycled all those soap shards? Of course back then they had their name imprinted in them too.
Thanks, Linda. No, didn't get south of town at all; that's where you start getting into the canal system that drains into the Everglades; you'll usually see at least a dozen alligators per mile down there.

Very basic motel, but clean and pleasant; the tripadvisor reviews for the other motel in town were scary, lots of reports of filth, vermin, etc. Turn on the tap and hot and cold cockroaches come out. That sort of thing. Actually, the casino is building on a hotel, the block was completed up to the third floor when we were there. That should change things plenty.

You should come along with us next time!
