Day Trip: Harrahs Cherokee Valley River

Finally had a chance to check out Harrahs newest casino in Murphy, NC. We knew it would be crowded, but assumed getting there early would work to our advantage. It did not.
Easy drive from Atlanta on Black Friday and bonus, gas prices were about 15-cents cheaper per gallon in the mountains!

The casino floor is smaller than expected, however there were plenty of table games. Roulette, Craps, 21, Poker and Baccarat. But there is really no point in having so many tables if none are open.

We got there around 10 am and the place was packed. I was hoping to play some Craps or BJ, but couldnt find an open seat anywhere. Problem is, of the numerous Blackjack tables available, only 4 were open and 2 had $25 min, but those too were packed. I waited for a good 20 mins for a seat with no luck and the 2 Craps tables were shoulder to shoulder for the duration of our stay.

So, we wasted time in the casino playing slots. That too was frustrating because the slots were so tight. I lost my entire bankroll within about 30 mins. I know slots are a fools paradise, but normally you can get a few wins, but not one slot paid out.

We grabbed some lunch from the food court and left.

Problem with Valley River is that you cant find a "wow" factor. No cool bar. No lounge (diamond club doesnt count), nothing that makes you want to hang out.

Ive heard that the hotel is really nice and apparently theres a nice restaurant upstairs, but we never made it that far. I saw what I needed to for Valley River. Next time, Ill stick with Cherokee or save up for Biloxi.

marko..
There isn't a restaurant upstairs - just access to the hotel. The food court/Starbucks is the only food on site.
