Driving to AC from Philadelphia Int Airport

We'll be renting a car in Philadelphia and driving to AC on a Thursday night. If I remember correctly, there's a toll for the Walt Whitman Bridge and one or two toll places on the Atlantic City Expressway. How much are the tolls? Is exact change required? Can one purchase an express pass ahead of time online? Thanks in advance for your help.

Lisa,

Walt Whitman Bridge Toll: $5.00 (inbound Pennsylvania ONLY)
Exact change is not required.

Atlantic City Expressway Toll: $3.75
On the AC Expressway there are 2 tolls that equal the $3.75.
I am not sure if you need exact change for the second which is 75 cents.

There would be no advantage to buying an EZ pass.

Have a good time & watch out for those NJ State Troopers.
Umpire, thanks

You don't need exact change at any of the tolls. An E-Z pass account is not needed, but it sure is nice to keep moving along at full speed and not have to wait on line at the tolls!

Stu, thanks.
Your rental car will likely be equipped with a E-Z pass transponder, but make sure you read the fine print. They charge you something like $2 per day of use. The only place exact change might be useful is the one that is 75c, they have 2 lanes marked for exact change only where you stop and toss the coins into a basket. The lanes to the right are regular booths.
Gamboozler, thank you. Please forgive my naivety as I live somewhere that does not have toll roads. We have the rental car for just shy of 5 days. If it is equipped with an E-Z pass transponder, are you saying it will most likely cost $10.00 plus the cost of the tolls or $10 inclusive meaning we can drive to/from as many times as necessary? If it's $10 plus the cost of the tolls, can one decline it? TIA
You should be able to decline the EZ pass that comes with the rental car. You shouldn't have any extensive delays at the tolls you will be passing, so I wouldn't pay the $10 extra. When I rent cars and use them around NYC for a few days, I will rent the EZ pass since the toll lines in New York City can be very long, especially on the weekends when all the amateurs are in their cars.

Ned in NYC
I recently used the rental car EZ Pass (from PHL to A.C.) because I forgot my own at home and I refuse to wait in toll lines. Cost $21 for the weekend, tolls and service fees included.

Depends on your priorities, I guess. Some say it's not worth the fee, but considering the nonsensical money I spend in A.C. anyway, I'm willing to throw away a $20 I might have otherwise lost in a video poker machine for the ability to breeze by dozens of people who apparently never traveled through a toll lane and spend five minutes each digging for change.
Nevadaned and Melissaru, I appreciate your feedback, thank you.
