Thanks for the suggestion to call about cancellations. They had us in an outside property (Quality Inn) for this weekend, but I called tonight and yay, they did have an opening in the tower on-site and moved us there. I much prefer being able to stagger up to bed at 3 a.m. than worry about driving back to a hotel!

Any idea what the status is of poker? The husband is a player and HATES those electronic cards.
Glad that worked for you.

The poker room will be the last place to get live dealers, when I asked last time they said probably not until January.

we were at Harrahs Cherokee the week live dealers started...called before we went up and was told only live blackjack & craps & roulette would be offered but when we got there live dealer 3 card poker and Let It Ride were also open and all of us were glad to see the other games offered...but that was short-lived.

It was so weird. The dealers didn't know a thing about the games. it was like the casino threw out these newbies and the players had to train them. One young dealer told us that she had had 2 hours of training and had never played a card game in her life. Even the supervisors were confused. When they were called over they even game wrong information to the new dealers. And with each dealer was a "trainee" who stood to one side trying to learn - they looked so lost. and the dealers and trainees didn't mind sharing that they had had very little training and experience dealing. As a whole, they couldn't pay out wins, some didn't know how to deal and when to hand shuffle the deck before going back int he shoe. I was sitting beside a woman who placed a dealer bet on the side of her bet...which completely confused the dealer who knew nothing about dealer bets. We had to explain to her how it worked and what to do with the chip and where the chips went after a win.

One of our friends playing 3 card was told 20 minutes AFTER a winning hand that he was paid $60 too much on a winning hand several hands prior and they took his chips without further discussion or explanation.

It was just so chaotic. I witnessed many "veteran" players who were very frustrated with the lack of knowledge and experience by the dealers and supervisors and made it known. I tried to be understanding and I certainly didn't blame the dealers who were trying their best...however I did fault Harrahs for throwing these folks under the bus.

Harrahs knew well in advance that live table games were coming and should have had trained dealers ready to go. Don't know if anyone else experienced this during the first week or so of live gambling.

I will say the dealers and staff at the craps and blackjack table were well-trained and knowledgeable - based on my husband and our friends comments since I play neither of those games.

That was the last week of August...going back next weekend for my first visint since then and am curious to see how the table games are working out. Very poor planning by the casino management initially.
Melissa...so sorry...
I had meant to thank you for the article on my prev. post.
I got so caught up in reliving that crazy weekend with "dealer training" I forgot to let you know how much I enjoyed the article.
FYI. I was at Cherokee on Saturday morning. The table minimums for Three Card Poker and Let It Ride were $10.
Was at Cherokee for just a couple hours a few weekends ago.... the tables were jammed at noon Saturday even in the high limit area... didn't look too close but noticed lots of $25 minimum BJ tables. Lots of screaming and hollering coming from the tables as dealers bust, players got monkies, etc.

High Limit slot area is very nice with adjoining restrooms. DL wasn't open yet. Too many $1 slots in HL crowded with players while the $5+ slots sit empty.

JCreek: our 6 Game Kings that use to be located in the temporary HL area near the Teller Cage are now located in HL area.
Blade, I know. Been losing my butt on them.
Diamond lounge very nice. You get a menu which you can pick two items plus dessert. The portions are small but tasty.
