Grand opening announced

Opening night for the Horseshoe Cincinnati has been announced for March 4 at 8:00 P.M., a Monday.

Construction has entered its final stage, with landscaping being completed and news of the 80 foot sign being on its way. Interior work continues apace.

I still can't help but think mistake after mistake is being made with this $400 million dollar casino though. The main one of course is its location. Located right on the edge of the heart of downtown Cincinnati in the highest crime and murder rate part of the city just begs for problems.

Next, there is pretty much just two streets feeding the casino once you are in town. Tell me THAT isn't going to be a nightmare!

Then you have a casino that was approved for 5000 slots. They are going to have 2300, plus 73 tables. That equates to about 2900 gaming positions, roughly. I guarantee there will be 5000 people there opening night. Chaos for sure. There will be 3500 to 4000 per on the weekends for months afterwards. With the type of clientele they are going to draw that equals trouble.

One helpful thing. The jail is directly across the street. You can lob a stone and hit it.

I hope time proves me wrong about this, but this whole thing has had a bad smell right from the start.
On the news--some of the neighbors are already complaining about how the parking garage is so ugly and is ruining their view (view of what????). I hope visitors don't get lost and make a wrong turn in the area of the casino. Leave it to Ohio to pass casinos in and then put them in the worst parts of an area.
There was a group complaining about the sign quite loudly also. Seems its 80 feet tall and is going to be pretty bright (duh!). They REALLY don't like that. The way bill passing the four casinos into existance was written the state constitution, yes, i said the STATE CONSTITUTION, the two companies that own the four casinos can do anything they want via-a vis the buildings. They can ignore any zoning laws or building restrictions that don't affect safety or fire codes or such. Therefore any and all sign or garage complaints are rendered moot.

I went by there the other day and asked my husband, "How are we going to get there without being harassed by beggers, thieves, and the likes. You can't even go into downtown without being panhandled" I TOTALLY agree with EVERYTHING You've said. Don't know how safe I'll feel in the parking garage.
