Took an overnight trip to Cherokee last Monday. They now have the new hotel tower open. With the opening of the new tower, there is a completley different hotel entrance and registration area. You now have to bring your valet parking slip into the hotel registration clerk for validation.
We did not get a room in the new tower although the people we talked to who did said the rooms were very very nice. Paula Deen's restaurant is now open as well although we did not eat there.
Since we were there for just one night we didn't do too much exploring and walking around. but the new hotel section has a long, open fire pit seating area close to the registration area which was nice. Am not sure if the fireplace room is still open and functioning in the old registration area of the hotel - but I always loved that fireplace area and hope it is still there.
Cannot decide if I like the changes to this casino or not. It's definitely not the same "local" flavor it had for years but the new casino area looks very "Vegas". There's still a huge construction area that appears to be an extension of the main casino floor. not sure when that will be completed. Understand plans include a food court, retail area and a spa. Harrahs must be making a ton of $$ on this casino. But I do see a lot of winners getting hand pays. but not me.
It was snowing and the mountains were just lovely. We didn't go home winners but did manage to make diamond before the end of December.
