Horseshoe - South Indiana. I'll be back!!!!

1st time visitor to Horseshoe South Indy (HSI)! I must admit, as a city kid I have never seen soybean plants, let alone miles of them, in my life until I arrived in Elizabeth Indiana!

The drive from Louisville to HSI was relatively easy. Valet, which is located 1 floor below check in, was quick and efficient. Valet met us at our room with luggage 10 mins later! Check In was quick and simple! Room was spacious with 2 queen beds, as was the bathroom with separate toilet area, tub/shower. A safe was in our room and a fridge too!

As far as the walking distance from hotel to casino. It is exactly .24 miles ( measured twice with my Garmin from hotel entrance to Total Rewards booth, which is entrance of casino...with out walking on the people mover). The free indoor shuttle will take you from hotel to beginning of food court aka "Pavillion" which is exactly .10 miles! The rest of the journey to casino is by foot no matter how you slice it! Don't believe the "mile walk to casino" bull that I have read previously. I must admit though, if you make 2 complete round trips to/from Casino/hotel, you will walk a mile (or.96 of a mile) !

Fitness center isn't much ( although walks to/from casino will help your cardio)! A couple of treadmills, bike and elliptical ( I believe) plus 1 machine and some free weights! 2/3 flat screen t.v.s in the weight room also, along with a water cooler and towels. I have seen worse fitness centers in my life. This one was serviceable! Location is next to valet ( which is one level below hotel check in).

Getting the the pool/hot tub was an adventure. Must go to 2nd floor then find elevator that just services access to the pool, at end of hallway (activated by room key). Huge pool and very nice/spacious hot tub! There were a total of 5 people there when I arrived, 3 in pool and 2 in hot tub. Lockers and showers for both sexes too.

Food choices were decent with the Friday night "Spread" buffet getting 5 stars (crab legs-steamed, prime rib, PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE, frog legs...that's right FROG LEGS too). Diamond entrance got us seated quickly too!

The "Corner Cafe" also filled the late night bill ( not toooo late) hunger with personal pizzas, salads, desserts, coffee and plenty other goodies from early morning till around 11 at night! They also had boxes of 6 small PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKES!

Graters ice cream stand also filled the bill one night as I headed back from Casino to room for a quick slice of cheesecake. We never did the Aroma cafe buffet breakfast ( located in hotel) we did however stop there for coffee and danishes each morning. Never disappointed!

Casino is 4 levels. You enter on 4th (top level) and can travel to the other 3 levels via elevator or escalator. 1st floor is non smoking, plus a huge poker room is located there too. Wife hit a progressive quarter royal our first night there for $1,039.00, so any reviews here will be biased ( we loved the place).

One disappointment was the Diamond lounge. Stopped in first night, Friday, only to be told that "pay for" cocktails don't start till 5pm and food doesn't start till 6pm. Seemed odd weekend hours for Diamond lounge ( I. E. our next stop was Harrahs Joliet and their diamond lounge was open by noon each day with full service going). No biggie, however we never ventured back to the Diamond lounge during our stay.

Craps tables were packed and dealers were exceptionally friendly. Kudos to one in particular named " Kim" who was very nice as was her crew! Dealers at Pai gow tables were equally as nice!

Check out was as easy as check in and our room charges were also comped at the end of our stay! HSI is defiantly out in the middle of nowhere, however the sign of a good property, IMHO, is that you are having so much fun there t,hat you don't notice the surrounding area! HSI did just that. Kept us busy, bellys full, made us feel appreciated and gaming was fun. What more can you ask for?

I'll be back!
Nice trip report!
We don't go to SI very often as it is almost a 5 hour drive from the corner of NW Indiana. However, on Tuesdays, they have a "free drinks" party. We went in around 4 pm to stake out our seats at the bar. Then at 5 pm, each patron gets four drink copons. By six pm, the place was wall-to-wall.

Luckily for us, some friendly people offered us their tickets as well after asking us if we were staying on property. We had so many tickets we couldn't use them all, lol. Bourbon is the drink of choice in southern Indiana.

We used the property as our home base to do the bourbon trail tour. Had a great time.

Joy
it used to be Caesars Indiana, and I loved it back then, the casino, the hotel, the buffet, the games. I have not been in many years, and not since it has been HSI. I am glad to see a good report card on the old "boat"

My wife and I just love HSI! We are *HUGE* fans of Louisville, KY (and, in particular, bourbon). From Lansing, MI it's about a 6 hr drive, one way, so we don't get down there nearly as much as we would like. That said, their rooms are very nice, I'm impressed with them (albeit, I may have low standards...but my wife likes them and she doesn't have low standards...I mean she married me, right??!?!)

Moving on: I agree with you that the walk is NOT a mile, not even round trip, but when you're loaded from the amazing bar service the casino has, that walk back certainly does feel like it's a mile!

I think the reason why my wife likes the casino as much as she does is because, she too, hit a royal flush her first time ever visiting there.

I think that if people like Louisville, they should consider staying at HSI (especially if it's comped for them). It really was the best of both worlds for us. We'd go do tourist things in Louisville, both downtown and distillery related, and then come back to the casino at night where we'd drink and gamble our @ssess off until last call!

Damn, now I *really* want to schedule one more trip down there before the snow flies!
