IP Biloxi - a pleasant surprise

For those of you not aware, Boyd bought the IP (Imperial Palace) in Biloxi last October. I got an invitation to visit with some nice incentives, so I drove down last weekend (last time I was in Biloxi was in the 70's, so that was an extra incentive to go). Its an 8 hour drive from Nashville and I kept thinking I could have been in Vegas quicker.
Boyd has renovated the old IP and it really looks nice. It was also packed on Friday and Saturday! The rooms are on a Sams Town level, but have been updated with a flat panel, etc. Hallways look great.
The casinos (there are 4 of them) have all the latest slots, but are on the noisy side. My wife really liked the selection of slots with several she had not seen before. For VP, it was the usual 10-14% found east of the Miss. Best I found on $ & .50 DDB were 9/5 machines. The qrts were 8/5.
They took my money, but I had fun giving it to them.
I had a $150 comp at the spa and my wife really appreciated it!
Buffet was very nice...on a par with Orleans.

If you are an Emerald, they want you and will treat you right.

Just a follow up--9/6 DDB at $.25 are scattered around the casino
"Airport DW" in front of Insomnia Bar at $.25
$10 BJ 2 deck games with 3/2 H17
Nice pool area
Down side is no breakfast options except for the buffet on weekdays--cafe opens later, I'm not
pastry kind of breakfast eater, but coffee shop has these

I'll be there in a couple of weeks with 2 nights comped---got these after one trip in May---

Enjoy
Captain Bill: Thanks for the good IP review. we are "Sapphire" and we received a total three weeknight (two for me, one for husband) stay between us. Since September air fare and car rental seem to be extremely high to Vegas, we decided to take Boyd up on the offer and make our first trip to Biloxi via car from Columbia, S.C. Since Sams Town and Orleans are two of our favorite Vegas haunts, I am happy to hear that we should feel at home at IP. I hope that the less than favorable VP schedules will not put a big damper on our trip.
Seems that VP is tight everywhere in Biloxi now; we were there a couple of months ago, and there were serious downgrades at Isle of Capri, Hard Rock and IP, compared with about a year prior.

Really do appreciate the review, Cap. Some good food at IP as well; we like the Brazilian place pretty well, and Tien is surprisingly good for a Pan-Asian place.

Too bad IP doesn't do air packages anymore, they used to have a great deal out of St. Pete/Clearwater, FL. Now it's only Beau Rivage with the air packages.

Does MS take taxes out on W-2 winnings like LA does? Just wondering.

Highprofilepaints: MS takes out a mandatory 3% on jackpots.

The Brazilian steakhouse was replaced with an Italian restaurant recently. I will second Tien as being very good. The bar on the main floor gets some pretty good vp progressives as well. Our only complaint is the noise level. But, we're old and crotchety. Just ask our kids.
