Ground Zero Memorial is Not Open to the public Yet. They are only allowing so many people visit each day. You must have a Ticket , These tickets are Name/Time specific. althought they are free , they are Booked thru Oct 31, 2011 , My Wife is a WTC Tower 1 Survivor and our Tickets are Good for Oct 31 6 PM entry. You can see the Plaza from Street Level but that is about as close as you can get. Good Luck I think your Husbands Service as a Deputy Fire Chief should Entitle Him to Unlimited access But The Good People of NY Elected Bloomberg and Not Me as Mayor. Perhaps if you Visit the Firehouse down there , They may be able to accomodate you in some way Hope this Helps
Thanks Swann.....so we finally are arriving in NY on Monday and everything is booked......staying at the Crowne Plaza in Securcus NJ, going to a couple shows, taking a tour with "ON BOARD" which also includes the water boat tour. Although we did not get into the lottery to see the memorial site, we plan to visit a couple of fire stations, and the fire museum on our own.
We hope to stop to see the Cake Boss on Wednesday and then head to Atlantic City...........3 more sleeps until our vacation begins........yippee!
